Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2019 (also known as MEHVEH 2019, VMV2019) was the fourth edition of the music contest, which selected the Britonish act for the 73rd WorldVision Song Contest. The competition will be organised by Brityunik Vefecosoin Cairkovoin (BVC), Britonisea's public broadcaster which focused on home-grown shows rather than international ones. The competition took place in six weeks, five weeks of live shows.

As in 2017, the opportunity was given to the act which placed 3rd in 2018 to participate in the next edition, receiving a free-pass to the Grand Final. In 2018, this opportunity was given to Kelsey Banques who came third with 125 points (85 INT, 40 BRI). However, Kelsey Banques turned down this opportunity citing that she instead took the opportunity to represent Britonisea at WorldVision Song Contest 66 where she came 2nd with 129 points. Kelsey thought that this opportunity should be handed down. The opportunity was handed down to Giselles who came fourth with 120 points (69 INT, 51 BRI) to participate and they accepted. This will be the duo’s third Vha Mehlodhivestoile after they participated in 2016 and of course 2018.

This year, 25 acts will participate in Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2019, though 24 of the 25 acts will have been split into three different Semi-Finals which are due to take place in Telm City, St Kings Bay and Burgendore for Semi-Final 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Due to the deal between BVC and BITC with Vha Mehlodhivestoile being on BVC but contributing to BITC’s WorldVision Song Contest, BITC officials played a major role in deciding the successful 24 acts along with BVC. This year, the Britonish Submissions stage opened within weeks of the Grand Final of Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2019 and lasted until September where music professionals who work for the broadcasters cut the list down to 24 Britonish artists. Similarly to 2017, BVC called for International Submissions on the 22nd of October 2018 which lasted until the 21st of December 2018 at 8pm. BVC said that none of the 24 Britonish artists are safe; if an international artist has a better song than a Britonish artist, they will ultimately replace them but did say that a maximum of eight participants across the board can not be from Britonisea.

In the end, BVC and BITC chose six abroad artists, with four of them being from abroad (Todlichebujoku, Izmedu, Togonistan and Besen) with rejected artists being from a plethora of nations which currently participate in either the WorldVision Song Contest or the World Hit Festival. Similarly to 2018, the songs were not based on soloists and groups but rather whether a song stands out in each semi-final (for example, if there are two songs with the same genre, they most likely would not be in the same semi-final). The artist reveal begun on the 3rd February 2019 and ended on the 17th February 2019 after having been delayed for two weeks. Overall, there are a total of 39 people in the 25 participating acts, with a record 5 acts being duets. The amount of debutants participating at Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2019 is 20 which is the most since 2016 - when all acts technically debuted at the contest. This was partly done due to 10 artists last edition being returning artists. The average age of Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2019 participants is 28 years old, an increase of a year from the year before, with the youngest Semi-Final being Semi-Final 1 (27 years old) and the eldest Semi-Final being the 2nd Semi (30 years old).

Over the past three Vha Mehlodhivestoile editions (2016-2018), the voting system has always changed but the most recent voting system was highly praised as being the fairest and most exciting for its audience. Taking that on board, BVC made little changes to the voting system for the 2019 edition and how the votes are revealed during each live show. The voting split remains the same as it was for the past three years (25:25:50) with the Britonish Jury having a say making up 25% of the vote, the Televotes will make up 25% of the votes while the international juries will make up the remainder of the votes. Nations across the multiverse have taken a keen interesting in participating in Vha Mehlodhivestoile with several of them broadcasting live in their own countries. BVC have stated that a maximum of eight international juries will be allowed to vote during the Semi-Finals of Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2019 with 2018’s first Semi-Final receiving interest from eight different nations making it the largest Semi-Final in Vha Mehlodhivestoile history. BVC thought that the ranges between the international juries were very small compared to that of the Britonish Juries’ because the Britonish Juries’ votes are distributed in a different way to that of the televotes and the international votes. As changing the Britonish Juries’ votes would be more intricate than changing the International votes (and therefore the Televotes), BVC decided on a new way to collect votes [12, 10, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1, 0] which separates first place and last place more than it did before (three points larger gap) while also making 1st and 2nd place more grouped together along with 3rd and 4th together and 5th and below. Moreover, thanks to the total of those points adding up to 40, the sum of the votes will be even making it easier to convert the Britonish Juries’ votes over.

The Britonish voting areas have also changed as well. Before, only 5 were taken in to account. This edition, BVC decided to include Aloquirbe as it’s own voting area despite it falling under the 9-12 million quota set by BVC. While the North remains the same (including cities such as Ghiez, Eaux and Loueske), East no longer includes Quickenden as East has too many votes compared to the rest of the areas making it more unfair from the those voting in the East. Junterapten was considered “South”, but that voting area no longer exists and has been changed for City which encompasses Junterapten and Quickenden, two of the largest authorities in Britonisea which have similar music tastes and are rather close to each other in proximity. Central no longer encompasses Machievelihe which is now considered “North” as Central has moved down to the Southern coast as well. Central includes Kyvivre, Tonesk and Sports City & Luton to name a few. The final area has simply been renamed from “West” to “Capital” owing to only the Doportedas Authority and minor authorities around it voting. The Doportedas Authority alone (and no other authority) has around 9.5 million people and therefore reaching the quota set by BVC.

The winner will be the act with the most points after Phase 2. The winner will receive a total of £150,000 BPS after representing Britonisea at the WorldVision Song Contest while the runner-up will receive £50,000 BPS after representing Britonisea at the World Hit Festival. 3rd place will not receive an automatic finalist position as per the two years before but will be considered for the World Hit Festival.

Format

Once the votes have come through, similarly to 2016 and 2018, the top two will go straight to the Final while the 3rd and 4th place will go to Loueske for the Battle Stage which will take place on the fourth live show. Unlike in 2018, the raw scores of each act will not be released until the show has finished. The four acts in each Semi Finals who do not make it through will know how they placed overall but those who are direct finalists will not know who came 1st and who came 2nd while those who are going to Loueske won’t know who came 3rd and 4th. This was done due to bias voting during the Grand Finals (ie SF1 winner coming last in the Grand Final). The voting reveal will be different this edition with it being in three different phases. The first phase will simply announce the top 4 acts alone with an exit interview to those who didn’t make it. In the second phase, we will then go back to the top 4 acts and announce the first person making it through to the finals of Vha Mehlodhivestoile. They will then have their reprise. The third phase will repeat the second one with the next automatic qualifier being announced. The two artists that are not announced at the end of the third phase will have been relegated to the Battle Stage in Loueske. By the end of the Semi-Finals, there will have been six automatic finalists.

The Battle Stage will happen exactly in the same way that it did in 2018. Three different international juries (two of which already are picked - Todlichebujoku and Darkmania) will be judging the best two songs. Each international jury must have ten members and of those ten members, one must be the chairman who will announce their winner. Each battle (there will be three) will result in one victor meaning there will be three winners on the night of the Battle Stage. The three winners will join the six automatic finalists and the 4th placed act from 2018 making a grand total of 10 acts in the final - reflecting the edition before.

In the Grand Final, all ten acts must perform their songs live. Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2019 televiewers will be able to vote for their favourite act from the start of the show until the lines close minutes after the International Jury votes come through. BVC was fairly happy that 11 international juries participated in Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2018 and would like to replicate this (or have more international juries) for the 2019 edition. In Phase 1, International Jurors will order the 10 acts and announce them using the WorldVision Song Contest system [12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1]. This year, there will also be the inclusion of the ABEN Jury, which is a mixture of professionals from Aloquirbe and Britonisea (who didn’t make up the Jury before), Estogium and Nightom. The maximum amount of international juries that can participate at Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2019 (excluding the ABEN Jury) is 20 if demand is higher than expected. After all the International Juries have voted, in Phase 2, we will then travel around Britonisea to find out the results of the 100% Televote. Britonisea’s televotes will be split based on how many nations have voted - with Britonisea making up around 40% of the total vote [((number of nations voting) - 40%) Rounded to the nearest whole number]. Vha Mehlodhivestoile has predetermined the voting areas.

Bidding & Campaigning

For the 4th edition of Vha Mehlodhivestoile, 8 cities have decided to bid to host one leg of the contest. For the first time, permission has been granted for Aloquirbic cities to bid, since they are technically a part of Britonisea.
