The Federal Republic of Cerdani , often referred to as West Cerdani, is a Federal Parliamentary Republic located in Southeastern Gondwana. The capitol is Bohnn and it is also the main cultural and commercial centre.

Geography

The total land area of West Cerdani is approximately 154,550km². The highest point is Mt Tisy, which peaks at 1008 meters above sea level is located in the northwest of the state.

Climate & Weather

West Cerdani has a Mediterranean climate with semi-arid influence. West Cerdani is generally very sunny, receiving around 164 clear days annually. In the winter the temperature is mild with daily highs averaging around 20 °C (68 °F). Most of the yearly rainfall falls throughout winter. In the summer months, Cerdani averages 32–33 °C (90–91 °F), with some days over 40 °C (104 °F). Both West and East Cerdani have virtually the same weather conditions.

Ecology

The ecosystems of Cerdani are ecologically diverse, ranging from dense forests to open rolling grasslands.

Government

The Federal Republic of Cerdani is a Parliamentary Republic where citizens elect representatives for the Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament. The current ruling political party of West Cerdani is the Democratic Unity Party of Cerdani. National elections are held every 3 years with the next elections scheduled for 2019.

Foreign Relations

Position towards East Cerdani

The official position of West Cerdani concerning East Cerdani is that the West Cerdan government is the only democratically elected, and therefore the only legitimate, representative of the Cerdan people. According to the Wallsten Doctrine, any country that recognises the authorities of the Cerdani Democratic Republic will not have full diplomatic relations with West Cerdani. Currently West & East Cerdani maintain no formal communication or recognition between either.

Military

The Cerdan Defense Forces are the professional military forces of the BRD. Troops in The Republic Defense Forces are volunteer only and enlistees must be a citizen born in West Cerdani.

Economy

East Cerdani’s economy is a mixed market capitalist economy with state ownership over mostly key industries such as sewage, roads and railways however there is open co-operation with private individuals and corporations on many recent infrastructure programs. Most major industries and infrastructure were deregulated in the mid 1980s after the authoritarian Action Party fell from power.

Personal transportation is mostly done by automobile or bicycle in West Cerdani. West Cerdani has relatively small public transport network, mainly consisting of rail and bus networks connecting major cities and towns.

Aviation

The national airline of West Cerdani is Luftag. Most airports in West Cerdani are privately owned and managed.

Energy & Utilities

Water in West Cerdani either comes from natural springs or rain collection. Energy primarily comes from coal power stations however there is a recent trend towards wind farms and solar power becoming future energy sources.

Healthcare & Social Services

West Cerdani has small but relatively effective public social services. Although there are public hospitals they are often underfunded and suffer from long waiting periods. Many new hospitals, clinics and social insurance services are private. The vast majority of the population have some form of insurance or healthcare either private or public.

Education

West Cerdani promotes universal and compulsory education for all ages. Education is heavily subsidised from Primary through to University. Majority of the education system is run by private institutions, however there still exist numerous public schools and universities.
