The Gwalethian Global Calendar or GGC is a specially designed dating system that is now considered the official calendar of the region of Gwalethia.

History

It is actually based on the Solar Aeternaean Calendar, currently being used by Aeternaea. Aeternaea follows the principle that the planet takes 365 days to orbit the sun, equating to one year. This year is split into 12 months. Although this is is the global standard for simplicity sake (mostly due to the fact that Aeternaea is the oldest nation, and has the largest library and archives in the world), many still hold to their own personal calendars when dealing with internal affairs. The calendar has three subdivisions into it when referring to a period of time;

  • Pre-WE (Prior to the Wonder Era / Warring Era.) (Records dating back to 11,441 Pre-WE.)
  • The Interim Age (2 Pre-WE to 49 WA, during the establishment of the Wonder Era.)
  • WE (The Wonder Era, the current one.) (Records kept up to date.)

Th reasoning behind Aeternaea's desire for a unified calendar is simple: they wish to make it easier for themselves to record history, records, and notes. Having a single global calendar allows this, and also allows a great deal of cooperation among nations. Not that Aeternaea enjoys cooperation.

Organisation

The Aeternaeans recognise 12 months, as established by the Benjari Calendar.

12th Month Aetae'ii'Mae June 15th - 30th & December 15th - 31st

NOTE: To find the exact day it is, simply divide the OOC date by 2 then add 2, for example; June 2nd OOC (3rd/4th of Aetae'ii'Mae) after 12h00 counts as June 4th (3rd of Aetae'ii'Mae), but before 12h00 is June 3rd (3rd of Aetae'ii'Mae). If you ever find yourself confused, please contact Aeternaea.

When describing year dates in a historical perspective, the year dates were merely backdated. When the backdating reached zero, the dates purely went into the negative. (eg. -385) but also a system to destinguish the before and after was introduced. Before Current Era (BCE) and Current Era (CE). It was felt this was the best approach, especially considering that thus it was common to everyone, and also that very little of significance actually happened in 0 STS.

Naturally, Role-playing days last much shorter than real-life days - all told, roughly two real-life month equates to one whole year in Role-playing - in PEEL at least.
