Opening ceremony | August 6, 2016 |
Closing ceremony | August 29, 2016 |
The Games of the XI Olympiad were an international multi-sport event held in the city of Aeropag, Paripana, which became the first city to host the Olympic Games thrice, and the summer edition twice. This resulted from the original host city Ilyseum withdrawing just over one month ahead of the scheduled start. This also marked the sixth Olympics to be hosted in Paripana or its preceding political entities. There were 338 medal events held, including the first Olympic competition for golf and the return of rugby sevens as a medal event for the first time since the 1st Summer Olympics. Electrum was the national Olympic committee winning the most gold medals (23) and total medals (62).

Host selection
A bid from Ilysea, Ilyseum was the only bid submitted for the Games, and approved by a vote of the Olympic Council, but was subsequently withdrawn before the planned start date of August 1. The executive committee of the Olympic Council invoked emergency provisions of the Olympic Charter to reschedule and move the events to Aeropag.

Qualification events
Owing to the circumstances of the change of hosting venue at short notice, qualification events were held for the first time, in a number of countries in the period leading up to the opening of the Olympics. In general, athletes representing NOCs in particular regions contested the qualification event geographically closest to them, with qualification quotas per event assigned in particular for athletics. The Paripana Sporting Council and defending Olympic champions were automatically qualified.
Qualifications took place in the following countries and cities:
- Liventia - Langdon (volleyball), Neverend (athletics, volleyball), Orean (rugby sevens)
- Paripana - Aeropag (athletics, basketball, handball, field hockey, rugby sevens, volleyball, water polo, American football, baseball/softball)
- Royal Kingdom of Quebec - Attawapiskat (handball), Bathurst (volleyball), California City (volleyball), Gaspe (volleyball), Goose Bay (water polo), Iqaluit (athletics), Kingston (basketball), Montreal (handball, field hockey), Ottawa (basketball)
- San Llera - Llerana (handball)
- Vekaiyu - Calesu, Eldura, Provinsk and Soveri (Water polo)
Football qualifiers were held as home-and-away ties, with teams winning in the second round qualifying for the Olympic tournament.
Events
Golf was contested as a medal event for the first time at the 11th Summer Olympics, while rugby sevens returned to the programme for the first time since the 1st Summer Olympics. Loretta Zimmerman (Electrum) and Troy Beasley (Fluvique) were the first women's and men's Olympic champions in golf, while Mattijana and The Licentian Isles won the women's and men's rugby sevens gold medals respectively.
The demonstration events held during the 11th Summer Olympics were American football, ancient pentathlon, baseball-softball, and sevenball. The host bid from Ilyseum had originally included the events of blitzball, pankration, women’s baseball and men’s softball but these were cancelled following Ilyseum's withdrawal.
