The Klein Realms

The Klein Realms is a medium-sized region, with a thriving community of 30 nations and only 8 World Assembly Members.

In The Klein Realms, international policy has boiled down to the simple tenet "to each his own." Economic activity in constituent nations is spot-on... unless it isn't, in which case economic activity is, quite frankly, basket case. Citizens of the constituent countries live a life free from heavy taxation, and the region has a negative median tax rate. The economies of nations in the region favor the private sector, with minimal businesses controlled by the government or state. Commerce is low priority for governments, accounting for hardly any public expenditures, although commerce is generally seen as a source of tax revenue.

As what seems to be the norm, education systems are quite effective in certain countries, and in others the people can only be described as dumb, ignorant and fat. Continuing with this trend is an effective police force in certain countries, and naked marijuana-ball fights with guns in other countries. Average governments allocate very little to their police forces, but in some countries, everything is legal, so crime can be considered "low." Denizens have small defense forces, and public transportation is an afterthought.

Governments in The Klein Realms find themselves in a constant state of disarray. Some governments dedicate funds to healthcare, but, as always, there is a lovely safety net in some countries and a bed of bricks in the others. The same goes for welfare: some countries fund it, and other countries would rather send you back to the factory. Surprisingly enough, spirituality is a moderate concern for most nations of the region.

Socioeconomic inequality is rife among the nations within The Klein Realms, with huge wealth gaps -- a record 933 to 1 in Wadelandia. Environments in the Klein Realms are universally appalling with a few exceptions, such as Galangus, Schurkenstaat and Superswagmcawesomeland. These good environments, however, are largely overshadowed by the abomination that is Ejioforia. There have been reports of a new race of people Christened "the Greenies," likely born out of the toxic waste common to the area.

The Klein Realms is a political battlefield, with The Soul-Crushing Factories of the Swanney the only island in a sea of uncertainty. Galangus has managed to keep a grip on its position as WA delegate through a combination of political guile and carrot-and-stick bribery. Galangus's policy is to "speak for the people," and tries to coordinate with major countries whenever it makes a decision. Other nations locked in the struggle include Ah Ya Know, a new nation aggressively seeking endorsements to beat out its competitors. Another possible contender would be Schurkenstaat, but this country seems quite happy with its stable position as consulting nation. Ejioforia also intends to gain political clout, but no one can quite get past the green rivers and black smog.
