History
Early history
Up until the 15th Century, Friskland was undiscovered until a group of Swedish sailors came across it. It became an outpost of the Kingdom of Sweden, and an important trade centre. It gained its independence from Sweden in 1824.
Friskland remained a kingdom, with the country's new parliament electing a new monarch. They chose the Swedish noble Carl Vilhelm Gyllenborg. Gyllenborg's descendants remain the royal family of Friskland.
