Nations in the region are healthy democracies, with denizens being afforded an extensive array of political freedoms. The economy of the region exists only in the imaginations of its members. The median tax rate of the region is 44%, but is frequently higher for the wealthy. The region is a socialist utopia: private enterprise is strictly prohibited in the constituent economies. Commerce within the region is an irrelevant annoyance to governments.
