Fifth Empire is a medium-sized region, with a thriving community of 36 nations and only 8 World Assembly Members.
Throughout Fifth Empire, traditions are kept strictly throughout the region, punishing upstarts and rabble-rousers harshly. Political freedoms are extended only to close friends and relatives of the leaders of the region's governments. Most denizens subsist off of basic farming or menial factory jobs, with few economic imports or exports. The median tax rate of the region is 34%, but is frequently higher for the wealthy. The economies of nations in the region tend to be heavily weighted towards the private sector, with on average 23% of the economy comprising the public sector. Commerce within the region is an irrelevant annoyance to governments.
In Fifth Empire education, when conducted, is done with sticks and mud. Crime is low: the region enjoys well-equipped and well-funded police forces, coupled with efficient but fair judicial systems. Denizens have very well-funded, well equipped defense forces. Due to the lack of any Public transport, streets are packed with cars, bikes, and assorted noisy vehicles.
Nobody really knows about the state of administration in Fifth Empire. Observers asked for information, but found nobody was available to take calls. Some government provision is made for healthcare, but at an average of only 1% the provision for healthcare in the region is paltry. Welfare in the region is minimal, with only a small amount of expenditure being devoted to spending on social security. Governments in the region are avowedly atheist - no public funds are allocated to spirituality.
In Fifth Empire, Social inequality is total, with wealth being held by a tiny fraction of the region's populace. The landscapes of the region are no longer recognizable as such, the atmosphere being unbreathable and the only jungles being made of concrete.
