The Communist Party of Haiyan, an unregistered political party was founded in early-1973 by radical politician Shun Qiu Ma after he was sacked for his increasingly leftist ideals. At a time when communism was a feared ideology, this alarmed the the government of King Jun Wei Liao who ordered the party be disbanded. When the communist party attempted to register itself for the 1974 General Elections, then Prime Minister Kun Huang Chou denied them. For several months prior, the party who had been growing increasingly militant in their behavior demanded representation in the elections or they would "force" the government to allow them to run.

The government did not heed this warning and on March 18, 1974 rebels from the party's ''Wǔzhuāng yì'' (Militant Wing) stormed the city hall and captured the town of Xiǎoshān. As the military moved to retake the town the rebels called reinforcements surprising the military and forcing they're  retreat. For the first nearly three years of the war the better equipped and trained Haiyanese military had the upper hand and the rebels made little gains, until early-1977 when rebels were seen becoming more organized and with heavier equipment (heavy machine guns, mortars and even tanks). With newer equipment, seemingly better training and the use of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guerrilla_warfare Guerrilla warfare], the rebels were able to take several key towns and military posts including; Sēnlan Army Base, Húbiān & Jiànmiàn and advance to within 482 km (300 mi) west of the capital [[Zīběn]]. As the rebels moved toward the capital the haiyanese governemt asked for assistance from the neighboring country of {{nation|Narsora}}, a large-scale trading partner of haiyan. Narsoran troops began arriving in April, 1977. They were tasked with securing the capital against attack and assisting in regaining ground taken by the rebels, the combined Haiyanese/Narsoran offensive known as the [[Zuìhòu Offensive]] managed to drive the rebels over 1,000 miles back to the eastern Dōngbù Province.

The 1977 Striorcan Coup d'état was an attempted coup d'état against the Pascal Borde administration in August 1977.

Background

The island nation of Striorca was granted independence in 1975, and formed it's armed forces in late-1975.

Conflict

On August 15, 1977 200 rogue soldiers from the 3e RI (3rd Infantry Regiment) entered the capital of Port Émile and surrounded the presidential residence the Palais de Striorca (Palace of Striorca) and demanded the resignation of president Pascal Borde claiming he did not have the nation's best interest at heart and was looking only to further his own political agenda. The government sent 850 troops of the 1er RI (1st Infantry Regiment) to counter and protect the palace. Heavy urban fighting erupted and within 12 hours 20 soldiers were dead, 40 wounded and government forces had dug in at the palace. On the 16th, the government issued a request for foreign intervention which came in the form of 200 narsoran troops from the 1 º Regimiento de paracaídas (1st Parachute Regiment). Within 5 hours Narsoran forces had three-dozen men in the palace and 174 more inside the city. A standoff scene than followed for the next two days, with one narsoran soldier being killed during the sporadic gunfire and two after being hit with a rocket-propelled grenade after Borde refused to step down. On the 18th, after two days with their demands being rejected and with no food supplies the mutineers surrendered.

Aftermath

Striorcan/Narsoran troops continued to guard the palace until the 22nd, when narsoran troops disembarked for their home country when their presence was deemed no longer necessary. A military trial found the leaders of the coup Col.Philippe Bélanger and Cpt.Adrien Favreau were found guilty of Treason and Capital Murder and were sentenced to death in 1979 and executed by hanging in 1980.
