The Aldian Greens, commonly referred to as "The Greens" is a green political party in Aldia.
The Greens was formed in 1616 when the various Green-oriented parties of the nations of Aldia decided to consolidate their base in order to compete with the newly established Labor and Coalition parties in preparation for the formation of the Colonial Parliament. The Greens cites Environmentalism and Green Politics as their primary guiding philosophy although it does subscribe to the values of green liberalism, pluralism and direct democracy.
The Greens traces its origins to various environmental movements that existed even before the establishment of the Aldian Cooperative. These were mostly grassroots movements and Non-Governmental Organizations that embraced environmentalism and fought to promote and protect the environment. Resource degradation, water scarcity, food shortages and waste management became the driving force of these early movements to bring forward environmental concerns into the political arena. When the Aldian Cooperative was formed these grassroots movements manifested itself in the form of the first young environmental political parties. Although these parties did not manage to gain a large voter base, they were successful in bringing green politics in the political world of Aldia. The transition from grassroots movements to politics was not an easy one and many green parties perished within the early days of the Aldian Cooperative. The survivors however became more adept in bringing their cause to the attention of the world population. Eventually, three years before the establishment of the United Colonies, these various green parties convened in a special conference and formed the Aldian Greens as a unified green party for the future United Colonies.
The Greens has been in government during the 1740, 1750, 1760 and 1780 General Elections, bringing forward their vision of a environmental and ecological sustainability to the United Colonies. Some of the hallmark pieces of legislation created by the Greens included the Hydrogen Fuel Scheme, Sustainable Energy Act of 1767 and various other ecocentric pieces of legislation. Since the 1883 General Election the Greens has worked closely with Labor to form government.
