The Altic Union of Heimar and Hawkwick, commonly known as the Altic Union, or colloquially as the AU or The Union, is a federal monarchy in the north-east of the western continent of Audax. It consists mostly of it's two chief provinces, Heimar and Hawkwick, along with its protectorate, the Federal Union of Hlymrek. It is bordered to the east by the Artstotszkan province of Solaria, to the south by the United Provinces, and shares maritime borders with Artstotszkan Vipura to the north.

History
Unification
The Altic Union was formed by Markus Albrecht and Jorik Narheim in late February 2014, in a peace treaty ending the 2014 Hawkwickan Civil War. During the war, Heimar had initially invaded western Hawkwick in support of the NFA, and was vital in the destruction of the HNA. Later in the war however, then-King of Heimar Frederich Albrecht along with his Adviser-Elector council, died in a plane crash in northern Sadia. With the oldest Albrecht son married to the Vipuran Queen, parliament passed the Kingship to Markus Albrecht. Markus, who had extensive involvement in the war and at one point was captured by HARM, decided to cut support for the NFA and instead supported a unification of Hawkwick and Heimar. After the deposing of HARM leader Erik Matterhorn by Jorik Narheim and other high-ranking HARM generals, Albrecht had a session with newly appointed leader of HARM, Jorik Narheim, to discuss peace and Albrechts AU proposal. During the session, Matterhorn's HARM loyalists attacked and destroyed the NFA, leading to the leadership perishing or fleeing and the entirety of the Hlymrek peninsula being turned over to Artstotszkan peacekeeping forces. Much to his peers' surprise, Narheim accepted, leading to the immediate unification of most of Hawkwick with Heimar under a new central government. Hlymrek was spared due to the Eld ethnicity being dominant there, and instead acting Head Councilor Janus Wulfar opted to make the NFA a protectorate of the Union, known as 'The Federal Union of Hlymrek'. Massive rebuilding efforts were put underway by the Vokun conglomerate. By 2016, the Union had accepted Artstotszka as an ally and both Sadia and Articalla as protectorates. In early 2017, amid Sadian unrest, it was supplanted by Salithia, making Sadia no longer part of the Union. As of today, the Union is working with Salithian officials in order to secure the rights of Altic minorities throughout the region. Throughout 2015-2016, the Altic Union ascended quickly as a regional power, becoming a major political, economic, and military power on the western continent of Occassus, especially in the north.
War With Vandinium
Shortly after the formation of the AU, Markus Albrecht attempted to bring several other nations into the Union as protectorates, including Sadia, Articalla, and Vandinium. Sadia and Articalla initially agreed, however Vandiniumite emperor Frederick resisted the pressure. With Markus' further pressure, tensions began to arise between the AU and Vandinium. Presumably to place further pressure on Fredrick, the AU began funding the contruction of military installation throughout eastern Articalla, near the Vandiniumite border. In response, Vandinium built massive amounts of defensive positions and installations. After re-negotiations between the AU and Articalla, and the break up of Sadia following the Sadian civil war, the AU increased pressure even further on Vandinium. On May 11th 2017, an attack was carried out at the Downtown Zwickau Mall by a dozen heavily armed men, killing nearly 2,000 people. Several days after investigation DRAGON officials reported that the men responsible for the attacks were suspected Vandiniumite intelligence agents, and used Vandiniumite weapons in the attack. The following day, after parliamentary approval, the Altic Union launched an all out invasion into Vandinium.
