[anchor=Ety]Etymology[/anchor]

The name of the Republic of Amleria derives from the river Amleria, which is the most important river in the country.

The standard way to refer to a citizen of Amleria is as a "Amlerian."

[anchor=Hist]History[/anchor]

The history of Amleria starts in the 100000 years ago when the first humans entered the region. The first remains of Ancient Amleria where found in the Lanchondrian mountains by archaeologists. They have found several caves which contains prehistoric paintings (mostely animals) and also remainings of human settlements. They are more than 60000 years old. In the Bin Amoun-region, along the Amleria river, archaeologists have found agricultural remains and also remains of human settlement, they are more than 4000 years old. In 520 B.C. Roman soldiers have conquered the area and built many military camps and a city, Apsus Tarsinus, present day Tarsis on the shores of the Amleria river. Several ruins of the military camps are still present today. The Romans have brought the first real religion -Christianity- to the area. Under the Romans many roads where built. Mostely from the mountains to the coast, to transport water. Tarsis became a big city and was the capital of the Roman province of Lachondria. With more than 5000 inhabitants, it was the biggest city in the area that time. It was also a strategic city, on the crossing of several trade routes. Tarsis was also an important trading city. The Roman rule was over in 206 AD, when the Arabic empire conquered Tarsis and the surrounding area. Tarsis was completely destroyed in that battle. Arabia installed a sultanate in Tarsis, the Amlerian Sultanate. It was an islamic nation, but very liberal. Under Sultan Muhammad I, Tarsis was rebuilt in a traditional Arabic style. All those buildings are sill present in Tarsis's historic center this day. Until 1800 the Amlerian Sultanate was a very strong nation. But after several popular uprisings, the sultanate became very weak. In 1850 the French conquered, without any form of resistance the country and also entire Western Lachondria (East-Lachondria was part of the British Empire). Amleria became part of "French West-Lachondria", Tarsis lost it's function as a capital and became an ordinary provincial town. Under the French regime, the people in Amleria suffered a lot. There was a lot of slavery, especially for exhuming gold and silver in the mountains. But the people of Amleria weren't angry on the French. They saw the French as their brothers. But, in 1949 Faruq Banawat, a philosopher of 30 years old had a dream. He wanted to restore Amleria. After 9 speeches in Tarsis, but also in Deir Azur, Zouhérat, Chegga and Sarbir, people started to revolt against the French. After a short guerilla war of 2 months (the Spring War) between French soldiers and Amlerian civilians, Frence gained Amleria it's independence on the 16th May 1950. Amleria was the first French colony which gained it's independence. Faruq Banawat was immediately elected as the first president of Amleria. He ordered to start the construction of the parliament, which was ready 2 years later. The old Sultans palace, became the official residence of the President of Amleria. Banawat was the president from 1950 until 1986. Under his regime, Amleria became a modern country with modernist infrastructure. Also the old buildings (like the Historic Centers of Tarsis, Zouhérat and Chegga) and ruins like the old settlements and roman temples and remains of the military camps were preserved, and objects were preserved in the National Museum of Amleria or the British Museum. After the sudden death of Banawat, the army commited a coup d'état. Because they feared a war between ethnic groups and an unstable regime. Under general Mohammed El Chaqiri, the stable regime continued, but the people and also the religion were suppresed. Now, the tourism became very important. Thanks to the beautiful buildings, the heritage sites (temples, International Humanity Sites) and the fantastic beaches, Amleria is the place to be. Hotels,beach resorts and other tourist infrastructures were built and mass tourism came to Amleria. This led to more welfare for the people. When El Chaqiri died at the age of 79 in 2010, Amleria searched for a new strong personality to become president. But when nobody was found, elections were held. But this let to istability and violence between some of the ethnic groups in the outback of Amleria (not in the tourist areas near the coast). Demonstrations were held when Farid Al Aquq became president (after the second elections in 2011). He was a member of a strict islamic party. People feared that he would impose the sharia law in Amleria. And this would stop tourism to Amleria, and that would threathen thousands of jobs. After 6 weeks of heavy demonstrations and violent clashes between demonstrators and the police, the Army took again in Oktober 2011. Since that date General Omar Sahr is the new leader of Amleria. He is a very strong figure and stability is guaranteed to foreign tourists. But in some areas of the country there are still violent clashes between some ethnic groups and the authorities. But it's safer than other countries in the region.

[anchor=Geo]Geography[/anchor]

Amleria is a large country and has a large diversity of geographic landscapes. The highest point of the Country is the 2430m high Mont Charé, in the east of the country. The country has a 120km long coast line, the Côte des Palmiers. It is famous for its large white beaches and large palm trees. The rest of the country is largely desert. But there are also many oases. Around the main river Amleria, the landscape is largely green and wetland. In the west of the country there are mountains, called the Lachondrian mountains. With tropical rain forest. Above 1000m of altitute, the landscape is domintated by large pine tree forests, or no forest at all. The mountain landscape of the west is domintated by large canyons, caves, rivers, lakes and also waterfalls.

In the desert, there is a desert climate. At the coast, there is a mediterranean climate. And in most part of the Amleria River area, the south and southeast of Amleria, there is a tropical climate. But higher in the mountains, there is a mountain climate. In the winter there even could fall large amounts of snow in the mountains. On this map you can see the vegetation in Amleria. This map is similar to the climate map. Because each climate has its own vegetation.

[anchor=Demo]Demographics[/anchor]

[anchor=Pop]Population[/anchor] Almeria has a population of 18.045.729. Most of the people, more than 2/3 of the entire population are Arab and live near the Coastline, in the Maritime Province and in the capital Tarsis. In fact, the entire coastal area is considered as the Tarsis-Chegga-Côte des Palmiers cosmopolitan area. The most part of the country, is lesser populated because it is desert and has a hostile climate. There are few permanent settlements in this area, but most people who are living there, are nomadic or berber. In the mountains, a small amount of the population are living permanently. In the map below you can see the spread of the population of Amleria.

[anchor=Lan]Language[/anchor] Most of the people speak Arabic. But there are more than 100 different dialects. Under the nomadic population, the language (dialect) can differ from tribe to tribe. French has an official status, and is required for the people to speak. So most of the people can speak French. In the touristic areas at the coast, people can speak English aswell.

[anchor=Reli]Religion[/anchor]

More than 91% of the people are muslim, mostely sunni. 4% is Shia. 4% Is Catholic. And 1% of the population are professing a naturalistic relgion. Mostely under the nomadic people.

[anchor=Govt]Government[/anchor]

The government is led by a general, who never came at power by elections. The government is not elected by the people. However, the parties who are presented in the parliament where elected by the people. We can say that Amleria has a non-elected government, but an elected parliament. The goal of the government is to secure Amleria, today and to make plans to secure the country for the future. The policies of the government are focussing on tourism, military, finance affairs, environment, human rights and freedom of speech. and Amleria is known for its free press freedoms. However in the areas which aren't under control of the government, and where terrorist organisations are active, there is no press freedom at all.

[anchor=FRM]Foreign Relations and Military[/anchor]

Amleria tries to work as close as possible with the US, EU and nations in the area. Amleria has a lot of embassies and is member of many international organisations. Such as the UN and Union of Africa. It hosts many embassies in its capital of Tarsis and also the headquaters of Africa and Lachondria department of UNESCO and the WHO (world health organisation). Amleria maintains a very good relationship with all countries in the world, but not with dicatorial countries like North Korea. Amleria is hostile to those countries because they are violating human rights.

Amleria is a very militaristic nation. And has recently joined the military alliance accompanied with the United States and European countries to defeat the terrorist organisation known as Daesh (so called ISIS). Also Amleria has joined a regional alliance to defeat local terrorist organistations such as AQIL (Al Qaeda in Lachondria), Al Murabitum and Boko Haram. Thanks to this, AQIL and Boko Haram has threatened Amleria openly in many videos. They said they will kidnapp locals and westerners. Amleria is on high alert, especially in the desert regions, where barely is security. The military is well funded, and have new equipment. They will try to do anything to stop this organisations to commit any attacks or kidnappings and violations of human rights. Also the police, the fire department, the medical sector and the civil protection is very well funded by the government.

The most important source of income is tourism. Also fishing and argiculture (thanks to irrigation of the Amleria river) are very important to feed the Amlerian people. In the argicultural sector, the production of corn, wheat, oranges, tropical fruit, figs, coconuts are very important for export. Amleria is known for its beautiful orange, sweet and juicy oranges. The only thing Amleria should import, are vegetables which can't grow in a hot climate, for example cauliflower, celery, spinach and potatoes. In 2012 Amleria has made a trade agreement with several countries, like Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

[anchor=Cult]Tourism and Culture[/anchor]

Since the 1950s, westerners and other people are enjoying the beautiful beaches of Amleria. Also very popular were the Lachondrian mountains in the Southeast of the country for hiking or practising other sports and visiting the beautiful caves and canyons, but thanks to terrorist organisations in the area (mostely over the borders with Takistan), smugglers and threats of kidnapping, tourism fell back in this area. Also in the desert, tourism isn't safe anymore. But in the safe days many people visited the temples, the oases and the International Humanity Sites, where people saw how people lived thousants of years ago. The relicts are still intact because of the dry and hot climate. Because of the terrorist organisations. At the coast and in the capital however, tourism is rising. Just because the military can secure this area more easily. Hopefully peace will return soon.

The arabic culture is the most important culture, with its famous islamic traditions and way of life. But in the outback, the nomadic people have their own way of life and culture. It can even differ from tribe to tribe.

[anchor=Demo]Infastructure[/anchor]

AIPORTS Tarsis has an important international aiport, for tourists which are visiting the Northern part of the Côte des Palmiers and the capital. Also Chegga has an international airport, for tourists visiting the Southern Côte des Palmiers. Also Zouhérat, Ras Madoua and Quhamut have their own aiports, but very tiny. They serve for inland flights from Tarsis or Chegga.

HARBORS Almost every town at the Côte des Palmiers has their own harbor. Most of them are built for recreation, for example for yachts. The most famous of them is the harbor of Sarbir. Chegga, Cape Blanche and Hughada have also 'economic' harbors. Many products are imported and exported from the country via this cities. They are mayor economic transition centers.

HIGHWAYS There are also some highways in Amleria. Highway 1, the Coastal Highway (also the bussiest), it runs from the border with Qasheer in the south to the border with Greater Islamica in the north. This highway follows the coast and is 120 kilometers long. Highway 2 links the Chegga metropolis with Tarsis. Highway 5 is linking the capital with Hughada. There are some highways from the coast to Central Amleria, especially Highway 3 from Tarsis to Ras Madaoua. And Highway 6 from Tarsis via Omarfar, Arfez and Bin Amoun to Ras Madoua and Zouhérat and from Tarsis to Quhamut. Highway 7 links Sarbir, Deir Azur, Noma and Quhamut with the Komarin border and Highway 8 links Zouhérat with Quhamut, Amaffi and the Qasheeri town of Elifat. Most of the Highways are paved, only Highway 8 is a so called gravel road.

There are also secundary roads in Amleria. The so called Routes Nationaux. They are not paved at all. Most of them are gravel roads, but some of them, like the N10 or the N2 are sandy roads through the desert. The most famous road of Amleria is the N8. It is a beautiful road through the Lachondrian Mountains. It has one of the most beautiful landscapes of the world, it passes beautiful Canyons like the Ulmit Canyon, and also the caves which Amleria is famous for example: the cave of Abu Inlut and the cave of Tun Qir are also along side this road. This road is also the only acces the Mont Charé National Park and the Mont Charé. In total this road is 140kms long, hairpins included. However, this road is also one of the most dangerous roads of the world.

The green roads are the highways, the blue roads are the Routes Nationaux.

RAILWAYS There are also railways in Amleria, but only in the Maritime province (most people are living here). There is only one railway which is linking Tarsis with Ras Madoua and Quhamut and with the (former) touristic area in the Lachondrian mountains and Komarin.

OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE In the touristic areas, especially in the Côte des Palmiers there are a lot of beach resorts for tourists. Also a lot of dancings, markets, restaurants and bars. In the Côte des Palmiers, the focus lays on tourism. In the capital, there is also infrastructure for cultural activities. Such as museums for example: National Museum, National History Museum of Tarsis,..., theatres, operas, but also a lot of cafe en restaurants. Especially on the Fish Market and in the river area, there are a lot of restaurants. In the mountains there are a lot of huts where hikers could rest and stay. Also a lot of bed and breakfasts (also opened by westerners). There are also a lot of hiking trails for people visiting the canyons, caves or the waterfalls.

[anchor=Demo]Energy[/anchor]

The most important source of energy is Solar energy. Petrol is imported from Saudi Arabia, the US, Komarin or Qandaristan.
