Avon (/ˈvən/; French pronunciation: [avɔ̃]), officially the Republic of the County of Avon, is one of the twenty-four cantons of Omerica.

Inhabitants of the canton are known as Avonians in English and avonnaises in French.

Etymology

The canton of Avon takes its name from the River Avon which runs through it. The name is a cognate of the Welsh word afon [ˈavɔn] "river"; both terms derive from the Common Brittonic name abona, "river". "River Avon", therefore, literally means "River River".
