The Banana Senate is the upperhouse of the legislature in Holy Banana. 360 hundred members are elected to five-year terms through colsed-list first-past-the-post system. The most recent election was held on 10 August 2017. The Bananan National-Revolutionary Party currently controls the majority of seats. The President of the Senate is currently Johnatan Banano and the Vice-president of the Senate is Elizabeth Peeler.

Composition

The Banana Senate consists of 360 members. The structure of the Senate itself is in an arch, with parties positioned from left to right from the President's perspective depending on their ideology. The leader and vice-leader of the party or coalition government in power are the President of the Senate and Vice-President of the Senate respectively. To be eligible to run for office, a person must be a citizen of Holy Banana and 30 years old or older.

Procedure

The Senate votes on laws passed by the lower house and may propose amendments or repeal a bill. The Senate also has the right to propose new laws which have to be passed by the lower house first. Every member can speak during the discussion, although the President of the Senate may forbid them. Each member casts only one vote, normal bills require simple majority, constitutional law requires 2/3 majority.
