Bureau of Barbarians

The Bureau of Barbarians (Greek: Προεδρείου Βαρβάρων, Proedreíou Varváro̱n) (French: Bureau des Barbarians), or PRV, is one of the main intelligence-gathering agencies of Diadochia. It is the Diadochian intelligence agency which supplies His Imperial and Royal Majesty's Government with foreign intelligence. The agency is one of the oldest agencies still in operation in Diadochia. The Bureau reports to both the Diadochian Foreign Office and Diadochian Home Office.

Origin of name

The current name of the Bureau comes from the Greek term barbarian. It is an ancient Greek term in its origin, came to be used orginally has a derogatory term to refer to non-Greek-speaking peoples, i.e. foreigners. Its use during the (5th century up to the 17th century) reflect Diadochian views that Diadochian Culture was the most evolved and civilized. Many people have called for its name to be changed, but all such motions of failed. The Bureau claims that the name is part of the heritage and states that the name is used by tradition and should not be taken offensively by any foreigner or non-Greek-speaking person.

History

The Bureau first came into being in the fifth century when it was founded to handle matters of protocol with foreigners, supervise all foreigners visiting Atlantis, and keep records for all matters dealing with "Barbarians" or Foreigners.

The Bureau's main functions for much of its existence were dealing with the various barbarian (Foreign) nations, including translation, communication and correspondence, and the keeping of intelligence on foreign countries.

Duties

The Bureau performs various duties, this includes:

  • Counter-terrorism
  • Gathering and archiving information on Foreign governments
  • Gathering information on individuals, organizations, and other, deemed suspicious or dangerous
  • Counter-intelligence
  • Oversee all foreign intelligence operations and activities
