Cabinet of Callagea
Formation
The origin of the Cabinet has deep roots but has always been traditionally an informal body. It previously had a role as a group of ministers tasked to advise the monarch on key issues of states. Depending on the strength of the monarch, ministers either served as simply advisers or they had stronger roles as actual administrators over their certain jurisdictions. With the rejection of monarchy and establishment of the Constitution of 1886, the Cabinet was given a much stronger and key role in government. Sovereign power was now vested in the Prime Minister who had the authority to delegate responsibilities to a cabinet. But just like the monarchy days, the strength and influence of cabinet members has fluctuated based on the Prime Minister. Some Prime Ministers gave their ministers more authority and autonomy while others micromanaged their ministers.
Following the request by the High Chancellor to establish a government after legislative elections are complete and a Prime Minister is selected, the Prime Minister usually nominates all his proposed ministers to the High Chancellor within a week of appointment. However, the Prime Minister usually already has a rough idea of who he is appointing, especially when he is head of a coalition government. In order to strengthen coalitions, the Prime Minister may appoint members of multiple and smaller parties to his cabinet in order to consolidate his support. But despite being appointed independently of the Central Assembly, ministers may generally answer to the Central Assembly, especially on the behalf of the Prime Minister. Ministers may be dismissed by the Prime Minister at any time with the consent of the High Chancellor.
Current Cabinet
The current Government is lead by the Gardner Cabinet which is the 26th cabinet to preside over the government since the establishment of the Republic. The current cabinet is a center-right cabinet with more conservative participants. It consists of 13 ministers divided between the Western Front, National Unity Front, and the Social Republic Front.
