Deletion, popularly known as CTE (ceasing to exist), is the process whereby an extant nation becomes not-so-extant. Deletions can be subdivided into temporary deletions as a result of inactivity and permanent deletions (“disgrace”) as a result of moderator action.

Temporary deletion

Nations are automatically deleted after 28 days of inactivity, or 60 days if in vacation mode. They can be restored to existence so long as their names have not been reused by any new nations. To restore a former nation, attempt to log in as it and follow the instructions when the interface asks if you would like to restore it. It will then return to one of the three sinker regions, Lazarus, Osiris, or Balder. If its name has been reused by a new nation, however, it is no longer considered a former nation but instead an ancient nation and will not be able to be restored; this can only happen to nations with populations smaller than 500 million that have been dead for at least 5 years.

Disgrace

Moderators can remove nations for breaching the site rules. In this case, they cannot be restored, and their status in the boneyard is listed as “disgraced”.
