Main Article: Kabalina

Dr. Elisabet Claudia Abel is the 13th and current Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Kabalina. She was elected to office by the Social Liberal Party (Det Venstre) after the December 2014 Parliamentary Elections, in which the Social Liberal Party gained a strong plurality of seats, seizing control of the government from the rival Social Democratic Party. In December 2015, Dr. Abel was reelected to Parliament, and again selected by the Social Liberals to serve as Prime Minister. In addition to serving as the nation's Prime Minister, Dr. Abel has also functioned as a Direct Election-seat Parliamentary Representative for the state of Ilyse since 2 January 2012. From June 2010 up until December of 2014, Dr. Abel worked as an Assistant Professor with the nationally renowned Ilysian Historical Institution, a university specializing in history, politics, and international affairs, from which she obtained her Master and Doctoral degrees in European History. Attaining office at the age of 30, Elisabet Abel was the youngest Prime Minister since the founding of the modern Federal Republic of Kabalina in 1968. She is also the 6th female Prime Minister since 1968.

Early Life and Education

Born in Lichtheim, the capital city of Ilyse, Elisabet Abel gained her first experience with politics as a teenager during student-run mock elections at Saga Helin Gymnasium, where she helped her party to win a plurality of student votes. Shortly thereafter, she began studying History at Ilyse's prestigious Ilysian Historical Institution, earning top marks in everything academic, and playing a vital role liaising between the student government organization and university administrators. After completing her undergraduate education early, Abel elected to continue her studies, working part-time as an intern for various Social Liberal Party candidates and Parliamentarians throughout school.

Political Career

Upon obtaining her doctoral degree in European History in the spring of 2011, Abel was persuaded to run for public office by a colleague after learning that Parliamentary Representative Markus Haas, a well-established Ilysian Social Liberal, was planning to retire. With her history working with the party, Elisabet Abel garnered a great deal of official support, winning a position as a Direct Election candidate for the Social Liberal Party in the National Parliament elections. Thanks to the support for PR Haas, Abel won a solid plurality of the vote, becoming a Parliamentary Representative for the Staat of Ilyse at the age of 26, and having won her very first election attempt.

As a young PR, Abel quickly made a name for herself as a staunch defender of civil liberties, with her strong positions and the prestige of a Direct Election seat of Ilyse catching the attention of Social Liberal leadership as the party readied itself for the 2014 elections. With public support for the rival Social Democratic Party dropping, and the SDP’s coalition partners electing to separate themselves from the increasingly unpopular governing party, it was clear that the Social Liberals would win the election, thus allowing them to place into power a new prime minister. Coalition partners of the Social Liberals, amicable to Elisabet Abel’s public outrage against perceived SDP civil liberties violations, as well as disdain for that party’s support for more lax economic regulations, endorsed the young representative for the office of Prime Minister.

After being reelected in a landslide victory, Elisabet Abel found herself becoming the Social Liberal Party’s leading nominee for Prime Minister. Thanks to immense support from coalition partners pressuring the SLP, Abel obtained a firm victory in the parliamentary election. She formally assumed office on 2 January, 2015, becoming the 13th Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Kabalina. She enjoyed similar success in the 2016 elections, remaining in office despite a conservative shift in the electorate diminishing her party's strength in Parliament. On 2 January, 2017, Elisabeth Abel assumed the office of Prime Minister for a second term.
