The Imperial Forces of Werreales (帝国陸軍, Teikoku Rikugun, abbr. IFW) are the military forces of the Empire of Werreales. They are under the tutelage of the Imperial Ministry of Defense and Home Security. The Imperial Forces are a mixed military force which welcome both professional soldiers and civilians performing their compulsory service.
The headquarters of the Imperial Forces and their main command center are located within the military district of the Imperial Domain of Kyoto which is prohibited from access to the civilians.
The goal of the Imperial Forces is to protect the Empire of Werreales, comprising its territories and its interests, and its allies. To do so, the IFW's roles are numerous:
- Defense, protection and surveillance of the territories belonging to the Empire of Werreales, including the various colonies and possessions,
- Defense, protection and surveillance of the political, economic, social, environmental and military interests of Werreales,
- Defense, protection and surveillance of the Emperor of Werreales,
- Defense and protection of the Imperial Government,
- Protection and surveillance of the communication infrastructures of the Empire,
- Home security in times of major crises, with the approval of the Imperial Government or the Imperial Parliament,
- Protection and support of the allies of Empire of Werreales.
Since 2077, the Imperial Forces are composed of seven armed bodies called Armies (軍, Gun):
- The Imperial Army (帝国国軍, Teikoku no Kokugun)
- The Imperial Navy (帝国海軍, Teikoku no Kaigun)
- The Imperial Air Forces (帝国空軍, Teikoku no Kūgun)
- The Imperial Armada (帝国宇宙艦隊, Teikoku no Uchū Kantai)
- The Order of Guardians (守護者順序, Gādian no Junjo)
- The Cyber Forces (サイバー部隊, Saibā Butai)
- The Emergency Forces (緊急部隊, Kinkyūbutai)
The Chief of the Armies of the Imperial Forces (帝国陸軍長, Teikoku no Rikugun-chō) corresponds to the Head of State of the Empire, the Emperor of Werreales, according to the First Imperial Constitution of the Empire of Werreales. He is the commander of the IFW as well as the holder of the nuclear and quantum briefcases (jp. NQデバイス). He possesses the power to declare the entry into war of the Empire of Werreales. However, since the Emperor of Werreales has only a ceremonial role, his title of Chief of the Armies is exercised by the Prime Minister of Werreales. The Prime Minister acts de facto as the Chief of the Armies under the guidance of the Emperor.
Despite their reasonable staff in comparison with other armies of the New World Union, the Imperial Forces have gained an international renown thanks to the quality of their soldiers and their infrastructures. Since the 2020s, the IFW is modernizing in various key areas such as robotics, cyber security, medicine, logistics thanks to significant investments in research & development and government subsidies from the Surge Policy.
By 2077, the Imperial Forces had a total of 67,685,076 soldiers, representing 1.5% of the Werric population. Their budget stood at 33.5 trillion quantanas, representing 3.9 % of the country's GDP.
