The Hotel was inaugurated on December of 1911 and was built to host tourists visiting Diadochia for the Komnenos septcentenary, a huge celebration of 700 years of Komnenos imperial rule in May 1912. It opened on December 20, 1911.

The luxurious hotel was used during the celebrations to house guests of the imperial family, and was afterwards popular with the aristocracy.
