King of Kings, ruling over the kings (Greek: Βασιλεύς των Βασιλέων, αποφαινόμενο επί των βασιλέων or Vasiléf̱s to̱n Vasiléo̱n , apofainómeno epí to̱n vasiléo̱n) (alternatively Queen of Kings, ruling over the kings (Greek:Βασίλισσα των Βασιλέων, αποφαινόμενο επί των βασιλέων), if the monarch is female) is the national anthem of the Empire of Diadochia, and has been so since 1740. The words and title are adapted to the gender of the current monarch, i.e. replacing "Emperor" with "Empress" and "King of Kings" with "Queen of Kings", "he" with "she", and so forth, when a Empress reigns. The author of the tune is Basil Kopsas who wrote it in 1726.

History

The lyrics first appeared on December 20, 1726, in the performance of To serve the Emperor, which premiered at the Magdaléna Theatre in connection with the birthday of Emperor Manuel VIII of Diadochia and the opening of the theatre. The Emperor liked the song so much, that two years later in 1728 he mad it the national anthem of the Empire of Diadochia. A position it holds to this day.
