The Modular Personal Protection System, or MPPS, is a light weight assault vest system which provides both protection as well as the ability to carry various pouches and other equipment on the vest itself. The ability to attach a wide variety of pouches and pockets is made possible by the cargo retention netting which is incorporated onto the vest. The vest is made of a durable lightweight material similar to kevlar. Protection is provided by both the material which the vest is made of, as well as inserted plates made of a combination of laminated materials. The MPPS system was developed by Kallesjo Labs, a subsidiary of Sverd Industries on request by the Interior Ministry of The United Federation of Prizyetsa.

Development

The MPPS system's origins lie in a 1999 requirement set by the Interior Ministry of the United Federation of Prizyetsa for a lightweight personal protection system which could be worn by officers and agents of the Interior Ministry to provide them with a high degree of protection which maintaining a high degree of mobility, something which the vests in use with the Prizyetsi military at the time lacked due to their weight and the distribution of equipment. A whole new vest was designed to meet this challenge, and the MPPS system was born.

The initial version of the vest, referred to as MPPS-G1, or Modular Protection System - Generation 1 was a simple vest which could carry two plates; one protection the upper stomach and chest of the wearer, and one protectiong the back. The plates were made of a dense ceramic material which provided excellent protection under normal circumstances, however when exposed to extreme cold or heat, fracturing in the plates occurred. After this was discovered, designers produced a new type of plate, still in service today, made of a latticework of laminated materials.

Further development of the vest increased the comfort of the wearer by incorporating padding and changing minor details in the design. Major changes are noted as a new "generation" of the MPPS system.

Description

There is a front and back main vest sections, a kevlar neck protector, two removable shoulder pads, waist cargo retention belt unit, side plate pockets, a kevlar groin protector, front and book plates made of a ceramic latticework laminate and two side plates made of the same material.
