The Sovereign Empire of East Malaysia is a formally technologically advanced nation of a humanoid species, known as Peregrins, that colonized a group of islands in an area between Southeast Yasteria and Aurora after fleeing their homeworld after a brutal civil war. The nation is comprised with a majority Peregrin population in the north and a minority human population in the south. East Malaysia also has a semi-autonomous democratic group of territories known as the Associated States of East Malaysia that is firmly under the Sovereign Empire's control.

Pre-Republic

Several millennia ago there was an ancient civilization in a distant star system that developed faster-than-light (FTL) technology and started to explore the surrounding star systems. They discovered that the worlds they visited were of a lesser level of technological advancement and over time their civilization was known as The First since they were the first race to develop FTL in their area of the galaxy. The First were a people that had a telepathic connection but as they evolved they used this ability less and less to the point that the nobility and ruling families were trained in the advanced abilities. During their years of exploration, they formed a kingdom that conquered many worlds as their population expanded over a few thousand years and they were in need of more resources. As they expanded they developed two distinctive cultures of Power in North/West and Discovery in East/South quadrants as divided from the First Core System. North/West had a background as the where the military resources and recruits came from while in East/South was where the scientific and agriculture resources and minds came from

As The First Kingdom continued to grow, it reached up to 100 star systems until they reached an equally advanced society known as Lux. The Lux was an offshoot of The First that was outcast during the early development of FTL. Lux was a modern day word that roughly translated to “traitor.” The Great Peace Treaty was signed between the two governments but it ended up being a front to a vendetta that the Lux had been planning for a couple thousands of years. About a hundred years into the treaty a formal alliance was formed and the High King had set up an arranged marriage with his daughter, Azahata, with a Lux prince to whom she fell in love with until she uncovered the plot against her people. The Lux had given up their telepathic ability and did not know that The First's nobility was trained because it was a guarded secret.

Azahata was on the Lux homeworld when she discovered the information and immediately left to warn her people. En route to her homeworld, her ship was attacked and chased into the First territory which at that point she decided to send a communication warning of a coming attack. The captain of her ship had already sent out a distress call that diverted the closest ships to aid per orders from the High King to protect his daughter. The Lux took this opportunity to start their invasion of the outer worlds of the First that had been left unprotected to rescue Azahata.

As the First government scrambled their defense forces to try and push back the Lux it turned into a war of attrition between them over the next three years that lead to the collapse of the First government as the Lux started their invasion lead by Azahata's former fiance who was a general in the Lux navy. The Battle of Firtprime took almost a year as the population fought back with everything they had. The High King called for their surrender as the pain he felt from his people was too great for him to allow it to continue.

As the Palace was being taken by the Lux, the High King and the rest of the royal family was executed by Azahata's former fiance in front of her. As she collapsed to her knees in grief he made a comment that she would be his queen now which caused a rage inside of her that allowed her to tap into the telepathic link from her people and the Lux. In that instance, she ascended to a higher plane of existence and with the power now available to her she could truly feel the pain of her people and the good that did exist deep inside of the Lux. In an instant, she ended the lives of the Lux leadership and military forces by taking their lifeforce, but before the essence of her former fiance was gone she brought them to the memory of then they first met on the bridge of his ship. "Did you truly love me?" She asked as they viewed the meeting with a single tear rolling down her face to which he replied, "Yes and I'm sorry my love," as he wiped the tear from her face before he faded away.

Republic to Star Empire

1500s

Colonization of East Malaysia starts in about 1550

1556 the East Malaysia Monarchy collapses

1570-1575 Five Years War between present day Free Pacific States. DMZ established at end of the war.

1579 A faction of Peregrin have disagreement with use of advanced technology. Their colonization ship is shot down but is able to land in present day Tivot. This group is known as Southern Peregrins and live a city of Per that was built around their crash site.

1590 Colonization of East Malaysia ends.

1595 Kingdom of East Malaysia is reestablished under Peregrin rule.

1600s

1601 the first Peregrin-Human Hybrid is born in the Per settlement.

1976 Elected Prime Emperor Justin Ashton becomes Emperor after assassination of Emperor Ty Bishop, who was unmarried and without an heir. Glendale Jung, Director of Foreign Affairs & Diplomacy, is married to Justin Ashton and becomes the Imperial Consort.

1977 Human-Peregrin Civil Conflict happens with protest across the Human and Peregrin territories demanding better representation and to end restrictions placed on territories that treated their population as second class citizens.

1978 Emperor Ashton signs the Articles of Incorporation in Libertyburg that establishes the Associated States of East Malaysia that organized Caven Island, East Island, Northrovia, Southcaven and Wachovia into a semi-autonomous democratic group. Under the agreement centralized power would remain in Eastrovia with foreign affairs, defense and trade but most domestic affairs are handled out of Associated States Administrative Offices in Libertyburg headed by an elected President.

1979 Bishop-Phelps Imperial Family plot against Justin Ashton and he is injured in a car accident on the way to a political event that ends up leaving him brain dead. Glendale Jung was in the late stages of her pregnancy at the time and wasn’t feeling well and was not in the car.

1980 Empress Glendale Jung has her coronation. Associated States leaderships calls for the separation of Human and Peregrin territories with the distablization of power between Empress Jung and Bishop-Phelps Imperial Family

Empress Jung establishes the “Two States, One East Malaysia” doctrine. With the help of the King of Caven she launches a 2 year tour across East Malaysia to help unify her people.

1983 Investigative Report of the death of Emperor Ashton revealed that it was an assassination and that the Bishop-Phelps Imperial Family was implicated. Former Empress Amanda Bishop publicly calls for the family leadership to step down. Empress Jung revises the Articles of Succession that now excluded all members of the Bishop-Phelps Imperial Family from being an heir. Effectively ending more than 400 years of power.

1990 Empress Jung calls the Southern Peregrin clan leader, reopening diplomacy after 411 years with hopes to eventually reunite their people by having a meeting in Per. The offer is respectfully declined.

2017 East Gemica Islands signs the Articles of Incorporation, becomes part of the Associated States.

Flag Meaning

Ubi concordia, ibi victoria (where there is unity, there is victory)

That leads me to the two-toned crescents that make up a circle. This represents the unity of Peregrin and Humans. A united people of diversity can overcome any obstacle and be victorious.

The crab represents the Peregrin people as warriors that have their armor at the ready for the cynical nature of life but the blue represents water (or natural flow of life) and if they simply go with the flow of the waves they will be divinely cared for.

The stars are reflecting off the water. It's a reflection of what the hearts of the Peregrin people desire the most [They have an unnatural desire to travel among the stars] and the closest they can touch this desire is the reflection they leave on water.

When you add this all up together. The Sovereign Empire and Associated States of East Malaysia (the circle) that is a battle ready people (the crab) that would rather go with the flow and be taken care of by their god is an island nation that surrounded by water (blue) that have a desire for the stars.

Imperial Jung Family lead by Empress Glendale Jung controls 80% of the East Malaysian Empire (Sovereign Empire and Associated States). The remaining 20% is controlled by the Prime Emperor/Empress and Imperial Senate which are democratically elected to represent the people. The Associated States hold their own elections for their President every four years but they report directly to whomever is in power of the Sovereign Empire.
