Ethain History

Origins Etha is located on what is known as the Ethanga Subcontinent. It is believed that the first inhabitants arrived at around 3,750 B.C.E. These people arrived via primitive ships from the Islands to the south. These people were already Homo sapiens sapiens when they arrived. When they arrived they already had primitive weapons such as Javelins and some spears. Around a few hundred years later, the Ancient Ethains made their first large scale tribes. Of the first ones were Franke, in the Northern West most part of the Subcontinent, Denk, at the Northern most part of the Subcontinent, Catal, at the western most part of the Ethanga inland sea, and Nape, at the boot protruding into the sea. Over the years, these would bring forth new Tribes due to cultural changes. This would bring birth to wars, wars which would decimate populations and tribes, as well as bringing forward new technologies. Early Trials At around 2,600 B.C.E., a sizeable group of female Ethains, as well as captured males, fled Ethanga to look for their own land to settle without what they considered “Male Tyranny”. They reached a colder land to the North known as Ethern. After arriving, the leaders of all the cultural groups that had partook in the journey worked in Unison and without quarrel. They formed a country to be called Ectique, whilst Ethanga was still ununited. At around 2, 550 B.C.E., all the tribes that would appear on the Ethanga subcontinent had formed. All of the first ones were still around; they were far from the most powerful tribes. By this time, the Ethernians had taken a toll on the Northern most tribes. In order to make a prosperous nation, they had been performing raids on the Ethain tribes for their people. They usually capture soon-to-be Braves (The warriors in Ethain society). This sometimes doomed that specific tribe to being conquered by their more hostile neighbors. Though, when they raided, they preferred to stay away from Tribes with a lot of neighbors. To them, this meant possible allies fighting alongside their targets. More often than not, their main target was the tribe of Ethanga. For them, this was a perfect tribe to raid. They had an unusually large amount of people per their land, though not that large of an army to oppose them, as well as being isolated by Mountains from any possible allies. This is by far, the most important tribe in Etha’s history. For it is this Tribe’s Culture that the Country and the Subcontinent were named after. Ethanga’s first reason for importance is its Isolation; this is a trait that will extend throughout Etha’s history. The other reasons are that this was the first Tribe to repel a raid by Ectique, despite the small size of the tribe. This inspired the Ethain spirit and Military might throughout the ages. Ethanga culture becomes the Dominate culture and primary unification only after the first Conquest of Ethanga. The First Conquest of Etha The First Conquest of Etha took place awhile after Ethanga’s success over Ectique. An Imperial power to the south of Ethanga, with an Empire spanning the majority of the Islands in the bodies of surrounding water as well as parts of the continents surrounding the bodies of water was Ethanga’s biggest challenge yet. The nation’s name was Asomia. It first got word of Etha in the year 930 B.C.E. The first Conquest of Etha, solely by Asomia, was initiated in 925 B.C.E. The first tribe to meet the Asomian soldiers was the Tunip tribe. As the Tunip tribe first met with its adversary, distresses were sent out. Though, even though they were sent in all land directions, by the time any of them were received, the Asomians had already engulfed Tunip. The distress calls did however raise a ruckus amongst the other tribes. Due to this, they made an interregional meeting to discuss the plan of action to preserve their way of living. By this time, the Ancient Ethains had survived many, many years of Isolation from other world nations, such as Asomia. They had reached an agreement; they were to form an Alliance with each other against the Asomian Empire. Although this did increase their combat efficiency, it did not stop the inevitable demise of the Ethangan Tribes. During this time, some of the Ethain tribespeople fled to a land to the Northwest of Etha, nearly identical to Ethernia in its longitude. Part of the Asomians’ success was due to their advanced weapons. While the Ethains had Javelins, slings, Knives, and other unique weapons, they were to pale in comparison to the Asomians’ weapons and techniques. Of these were their high grade spears, their recurved Bows, high quality Bronze swords, and Naval technology. Ethanga as a whole fell in 893 B.C.E. With that fateful year, Etha’s destiny was sealed. The Ethain people were treated as a lower class than the Asomians, this was not looked upon very kindly. In 500 B.C.E., 393 years after the subcontinent fell, the biggest revolt to ever occur in the Asomian Empire started. This is where Ethanga became important again. Their leader, a man named Ethan, and known by nothing else except by the Great General, led a vast army of Ethains out of Ethanga, capturing province after province. Ethanga made an Ideal place to start due to its Isolation from the rest of the subcontinent because of the mountains. After capturing the areas surrounding their starting area, they were met with a huge challenge: The Asomian army, that of which outnumbered the rebel’s forces vastly. The solution was simple, larger numbers means more supplies needed to support the troops, so they marched into the desert. Unwittingly, the Asomian emperor sent the troops in after them, blinded by the frustration that they had caused for him. In the desert, although both sides were used to the dry, arid conditions, the Ethains fought valiantly and slaughtered the Asomian army. Ethan himself is said to have taken out massive quantities of soldiers by himself. This marked a turning point in the war for the ownership of Etha. After fleeing the desert, the Asomians were caught up to time after time by Ethan’s army. Eventually, the people had had enough of sitting by. The Rebel forces had inspired the people far more than enough to take up arms as well. After that, there was nowhere to flee to. There was, however, one exception to this: The Sea. Asomia had eventually left Etha completely after a span of two years. In the first moments that Etha finally had as a country, it was to build ships and prepare for war. Etha’s First Moments Etha had started to build ships to prepare for their counter attack. After a year, Etha had a sufficient navy. With this, it started to invade. Taking island after island, they went unstopped due to the Asomians’ fear of their willpower and resolve. Eventually, by order of the Emperor, the Navy was sent to combat the Ethains’. The battle that ensued was one of a magnificent imagination, coming closer and closer to a solution that looked more like a standstill than a victory or a loss. But eventually, the Ethains triumphed. With this victory, the great Asomian Empire was at the mercy of a bunch of rebels. Ethan himself is said to have stepped in front of the Emperor himself after capturing the capital. With the legendary sword, that of which could defile any blade, and cut through any armor, used at the palace: the Sword of Ethane, Ethan is said to have had dethroned him. With this action, not only did Etha become a country, but it also won its first victory. After Etha had won and let what was left of Asomia be, it isolated itself from the world. The Ethain “Crusades” The Ethain “Crusades” were actually quite the opposite. The Ethain Crusades took place from 203 B.C.E. through to 780 C.E. These were battles upon battles initiated by the invading Ethernians from the North. These constant raids had stopped shortly after the Asomian conquest of Ethanga. And although they had started to pick up after Etha had become free, this time was different. Ectique was actually out to take control of Etha and establish their society of Female superiority. This era of Etha saw a huge increase in military technology. Both Etha and Ectique had developed medieval knight armor and weapons, such as poleaxes (Arms) and siege engines. The Ethernian forces had increased rapidly over the years that they were idle. The first battles took place in Denk. As the invasion was unexpected, the Ethernians managed to capture a bit of territory. This was immediately retaliated upon by the Ethains. The Ethains were stopped in their tracks by the Ethernians. The Ethernians were prepared for the hardships they would have to face and as such fought with all their might. It also helped that the Ethernians had more advanced armor and weapons of all types other than swords. Not too long after, the Ethain forces took back Denk. The Ethernians continued to assail the Ethains for years to come. The Ethernians continued to take provinces that were soon lost, again and again. The constant battling of these two countries advanced their technology and innovation. One such battle was the 7th battle of Denk. Here the Ethernian armies had cornered the Ethains in a geographically inclined area. As defeat seemed inevitable, an idea came up that would save their skins from capture by the Ethernians. The Ethain General had information purposely given to the Ethernians. They said that they would draw the Ethernians into the cornered area where the temperature was cold enough to kill. Of course, this did not stop the Ethernians, for they were used to the Northerner lands’ temperature, of which they were certain was colder. Though, the information they had overheard was not false, the temperature really would get deathly cold at night. So, as expected, the plan worked. The Ethains lured the Ethernians in where they could not perform as well and ended up retreating after multiple guerilla attacks by the Ethains. Another famous battle occurred a few hundred years after the latter. This battle took place at the Northeastern part of Binten (One of the Provinces). The Ethernian advances had been successful up till’ then, capturing Denk, Saxon, Silizeg, and entering into Binten. The Ethernian forces outnumbered the Ethain’s yet again. Though, due to clever strategies, the Ethains succeeded. The Ethains clashed with the Ethernians shortly after they had entered Binten. The Ethernians met with them at an open field with some small hills. The Ethains were at a disadvantage here due to both their smaller army, and their for the most part inferior weapons. After no too long, the Ethains began their retreat. The Ethernians gave pursuit as to crush their armies for a while. The Ethains fled into a huge forest in the area, with trees easily reaching hundreds of feet tall. Here, the Ethains had an advantage that they could apply well: A smaller and more maneuverable army. When the Ethernians pursued, of which they did knowing the circumstances, their armies were disaster. The Ethains pushed them out within a few hours of fighting. The Ethernians countered with what seemed like it would be an equally if not better strategy. They positioned their siege weapons, Ballistae, surrounding the forest. Though, when they fired, the main casualties were the ballistae themselves. They had shot eachothe due to the Forest being on a hill. So while the trees protected the Ethains, the Ballistae were in partial ruin. The battle dragged out for a few days longer. The smaller Ethain army had little trouble procuring food for themselves, as they were in a forest, in comparison to the Ethernian army. The Ethernians decided to retreat after a few days, the Ethains pursued. When the Ethains had caught up, they once again fought, and this time the Ethains won. The Ethains pushed on to fight more battles while retaking the lost provinces. This would last until 780 C.E., when peace was finally made between the two nations: Etha and Ectique. After this, began the “Pax Etha”, or the “Ethain Peace”.

The Long Night In the year 1,057 C.E., the Parliamentary Monarchy of Etha suffered a death in the royal family: the heir. He was killed by an assassin of unknown employment. Thus the old king at this time had no one to succeed him, and therefore when he died the bloodline would end. But then, as if a miracle from heaven, Ectique proposed a marriage between the two royal families. The King, as Etha has long had tensions with Ectique, reluctantly agreed. So it was decided that the Ethain King would marry a member of Ethernian royalty. But, as the Ethain King was transported to Ectique to get married, some of the more “Less Loyal” members of parliment took over the Capital and made an attempt on his life. Luckily, even though his ship had been burned, he made it out safely, due to the Ethernians sending back-ups in case of an emergency. But from thereafter, due to propaganda by the corrupt official, Etha had no king, though officially they never banned the royalty. The Ethain King was able to live out the remainder of his life in relative bliss. Though, while he was relatively happy, Etha hit a “Dark Age” so to speak. The new controllers of Etha handed over control to a country on the mainland continent. This country’s name was Brynt. And although they stood for stuff Etha would repel , this made no difference as the country was under new leadership. Along with other countries, Etha was a territory of Brynt. With this, Etha would not be an independent nation again for some while. But in 1,307 C.E., 250 years after Etha gave over control to Brynt, there was unrest amongst the other territories. Seizing this opportunity, Etha declared itself independent whilst the armies of Brynt were off in its other territories to put out the rebels. Etha established itself as a Presidency and had an election for their leader. The result of the large rebellions left the empire crippled and as such it collapsed. Etha was once again recognized as its own country. Coming out of its Shell Shortly after gaining independence again, Etha was dragged out of Isolation, again, by an old “Friend”: Asomia. Although reluctant at first, due to past tensions, Etha accepted relations with the changed country. The relationship between the two countries was primarily trade, though there was cultural exchange, like in the past like when the Asomians had control over Etha early on in its history the Ethain language was under heavy influence but was quickly reverted back to normal, mainly due to negotiations with the other two nations to the North. Asomia came of very important use to Etha on multiple occasions, one of which stopped what could have been utter calamity for Etha had Asomia’s delegate not have overheard what it did. At a place called the World Assembly, a place where countries send their delegates to discuss matters of varying importance, three Nations’ delegates were discussing a plan to invade Etha and greaten their resource count. Asomia’s delegate overheard these plans are reported back to the Nation’s empress at the time. She herself then reported the occurrence to Etha’s president. This prepared them for the attack. Stupidly enough, they unloaded all of their troops at the same place. Ethain troops were ordered to hide in the hill dunes until all of the enemy troops were unloaded. When they were, they set the ships ablaze via arrows. The battle that ensued was a slaughter fest. One in which the Ethains claimed complete and utter victory. At the next World Assembly meeting, the Ethain Delegate announced a counter attack would ensue. Being that Etha was attacked without the World Assembly being informed first, there was nothing that could be done. Prior to setting sail for the Nations’ ports, they asked for Asomia’s help. They inquired as to who the enemies of these nations were. The surprising answer was that the entire continent’s other nations. So Etha sold weapons to the nations for food and money. By the time Ethain warships arrived at the Nations’ ports, they were wrecked by war. They surrendered at first sight of the Ethains. In the year 1,523 C.E, Etha was given a gift by Asomia to prove their relation. This was like nothing they had ever seen before: Gunpowder. Etha immediately started replicating the new substance and training soldiers to use a new weapon called the Musket. This gift was not a moment too soon either, as an empire to the North had set its sight on Etha not too long afterwards. This Country’s name was Nivagra. Nivagra was a Nation born to the freezing cold looking to expand its territory further. The Nivagran delegate at the World Assembly announced that they were to declare war on Etha. Even though the World Assembly was willing to step in, Etha accepted the “Challenge”. The Nivagrans arrived on the same exact date they had informed they would, as well as arriving at the same location as the previous nations. The Ethains implemented the new gunpowder and Musket technology for the first time, to a great success. The casualties were near exact on both sides. Though the Nivagrans had one thing going for them: Cannons. The Nivagran Navy was even more advanced than Etha’s. Though, for all their advancements, they still weren’t fireproof. Their archers ignited the ships and finished off the armies. Etha got a large tribute from the war, including Cannon technology. The reason for Nivagra’s attack, other than expansion, was to sever Ethain-Asomian ties, making room for Nivagran-Asomian ties. After this, Etha continued its trade with Asomia, as well as forming an alliance. The Feuding Tribes Although Ethanga was the ultimate successor tribe of Etha, its survival hung by a small thread more often than not. Historians think that the very first large scale tribe was Nape. The reasons being that it was right next to a huge coastline and was very fertile. There have been artifacts that also point to Nape being the first large scale tribe. The other three large tribes-Franke, Catal, and Denk-appeared at around the same time, as well. These tribes had no knowledge of the others’ existences until quite some time later. The first two to interact were Franke and Catal. The first meeting of these two went very well…at first. But a misunderstanding led to a huge battle between the two. Catalans accidentally insulted Franken royalty (The Chief’s daughter). This led to Franke attacking and killing nearly all the Catalans that had come to Franke. In response, the Catalans sent a large army. The battle took days, but eventually, through decisive tactics, the Franken armies won the day. The war stopped shortly there due to the Franken not being able to pursue onto the Catalan homeland, not knowing where it was as the Catalans had found them. The Franken tribe soon hit a bump in the road. A great deal of the populace did not appreciate sending their families off to war because the Royalty had been insulted. Therefore, a very large amount of Franken moved into neighboring areas and created an even larger tribe called “Tiz-Franke”, meaning “New Franke” in Ancient Ethain. New tribes sprung up all over the Ethanga subcontinent, each vying for control over as much land as possible. In the West existed Franke, Tiz-Franke, Catal, Cast, Portu, Galic, Binten, and Saxon, to the Central existed Silizeg, Mil, Aus, Pol, Estilithiv, Denk, Pommish, Czech, and Milausczezeg, to the Inner Coastal region existed Nape, Papen, Bal, Sice, Urban, Sard, Pis, and Ven, to the East existed Ethanga, Hun, Tran, Bulg, Serb, Bosin, Grekia, Ukra, Bel, Corf, Pelop, Na,Xo,Turkin, and Cyp, and to the sparsely inhabited South existed Cret, Mama, Tunip, Alib, Morro, and Yuyzl-Morro, or “South-Morro”. These tribes weren’t always as different as they made themselves think. For example, Milausczezeg was just a cultural mesh tribe of the Mils, Ausins, Czechs, and the Silizegs. The Ethanga tribe was often the victim of bullying. They were constantly under attack, despite Isolating themselves from the rest of the world. They honed their Guerilla tactics for warfare. This helped them against The troops of other tribes, such as Hun, and the Ethernian raids, as for mentioned. Their tactics only had a sharp decrease in efficiency when put against the Asomian ranks which refused to break regardless of punishment from the enemy. Hun. Hun was among one of the largest tribes on the subcontinent by the time of Asomian invasion. Even so, they started off from much humbler origins. At first, Hun was a small tribe residing in the area where their Chief lives-The Northwest. The united smaller tribes using smart tactics and numbers. The first ones united were Crot, Romani, and Mol. In their later years, they had constant conflicts, mainly with Pol and on occasion Ethanga. After The Nivagran War After Etha had bested Nivagra, the world continued to open up to Etha, although Etha would have preferred otherwise. Though Etha would have liked to stay secluded from the rest of the world, but for the good of the country, Etha started to interact more with the world. It started setting up military bases in different locations around the world. The majority of them were on Island nations in the Medoaquan Ocean, including Asomia. Though Etha also expanded contact to other nations outside of this region. The next major conflict Etha had would not take place for a while after. Its name, The Great Eastern Conflict. So called, because of its location. The main players of the war: The Spoonish War In a continent to the south of Etha, forming the southern ring around the Medoaquan Ocean, lay three feuding nations. Their names were, Novaland, Ustio, and Erusia. These Nations were constantly fighting over something at one time or another. This time was different, however, due to “The Oppressed People for Peace”. The OPP was an organization that was intent at peace, no matter the cost. Prior to the OPP, Etha was having troubles due to the Spoonish War. Trade. Etha’s small trade network was being disrupted throughout the Medoaquan Ocean due to siding Nations. Because some nations supported one of the Spoonish countries, and Etha traded with them, other countries would refuse to trade with Etha. Etha’s solution? Stop the war. Etha was preparing to mount a uniting invasion to consolidate the three countries as a vassal, giving them more control over the trade network. Their plan was disrupted by the corrupt OPP. They had managed to get Destructive weapons and were aiming them at Gala, the Continent at which the Nations resided. Etha immediately halted its plans to place troops. After the OPP’s plans to stop the war failed, they launched their weapons. Afterwards they dissolved. A large portion of the original group now live in Etha. The War of Injustice (World War I) After a peaceful period of Ethain History, a war erupted. The war started all the way to the south east. Normally, something like this would usually hold no importance to Etha, but this was nearing the modern age. After an insult from Shaluach, a very Southwestern country, reached the ears of Torgon, a very southern country, a war erupted. This seemed like an easy, and uncalled for, war to win for Torgon. But to everyone’s surprise, the Shalks won the first victory in a glorious battle. After the Torgs eventually devastated the Shalks’ forces, Atelia stepped in. Atelia inflicted some heavy damages to the Torgs, who fled to their Spoonish allies. Etha, seeing as the War was growing, Etha announced that it wanted no part, and to stay neutral. The Shalks, who had built their forces up by now, were apparently appalled at our response. In a cowardly move, they, along with some Atelians, attacked Etha near the Capitol. After engaging and fighting for a while the Ethains made a Tactical Retreat to wait for reinforcements. After a bit, some Spoonish reinforcements arrived, and together they kicked out the Pivot (Name for one side of the War) troops. Afterwards, the Ethains broke contact with the other nations on their side, to stay Isolated. This brought about some downsides, such as the Spoonish disapproving, and bombing both, the Shalks and the Ethains.
