Gestravia, officially known as the Socialist Republic of Gestravia, is a fairly sized nation located on the continent of Europe. It is bordered by Germany to the west; Poland to the east; Croatia and Hungary to the south-east, and Italy to the south-west. Gestravia's capital, Caraci, is situated near the center of the nation, with the base of Mount Suncica nearby to the east.

Etymology

The origin of Gestravia is thought to be a Gothic or Indo-Aryan term assigned to a Slavic tribe living near the Baltic Sea. The name derives from Medieval Hiestliudzimora ("men of the farms and grain") attested in the Tragomir inscription of the late 9th Century. The original attestation of the name in the Tragomir inscription is lost. Only a 1548 copy is preserved, leading to doubts over the authenticity of the claim.

History

The modern Gestravian state was preceded by feudal governments ruled by knights and aristocratic families. Some examples include the House of Kroll and the Svehla Knights. Notable descendants of these "Gestrav knights" are Zhelyazko and Radek Svehla. These groups laid the foundation for the patriotic attitude of future generations, along with the political structure of the country. Some modern Gestravians continue to hold their bloodlines as status symbols.

Geography

Gestravia is a country located in Central Europe, bordering Germany to the west; Poland to the east; Croatia and Hungary to the south-east, and Italy to the south-west. It lies mostly between latitudes 49°N and 15°E.

A third of the territory is covered by forest. Gestravia is surrounded by mountains and forested highlands: the famous Mount Suncica forms a border with Poland in the east. Phytogeographically, Gestravia belongs to the Central European province of the Circumboreal Region, within the Boreal Kingdom. According to the World Wide Fund for Nature, the territory of Gestravia can be subdivided into four ecoregions: the Western European broadleaf forests, Central European mixed forests, Pannonian mixed forests, and Carpathian montane conifer forests.

The climate is mostly temperate throughout Gestravia. The climate is oceanic in the north and west and becomes gradually warmer and continental towards the south and east. Summers are generally warm, with average temperatures between 18 and 30 °C (64.4 and 86.0 °F) depending on the region. Winters are rather cold, with average temperatures around 3 °C (37.4 °F) in the northwest and −6 °C (21 °F) in the northeast. Precipitation falls throughout the year, although, especially in the east, winter is drier than summer.

National Assembly

The Gestravian National Assembly (национальное собрание) is the unicameral representative body of the citizens of the Socialist Republic of Gestravia; it is Gestravia's legislature. Under the terms of the Gestravian Constitution, the National Assembly represents the people and is vested with legislative power. The assembly is composed of 151 members elected to a five-year term on the basis of direct, universal and equal suffrage by secret ballot. Seats are allocated according to the Gestravia Parliament electoral districts: 125 members of the parliament are elected in multi-seat constituencies, 20 from the minorities and 6 from the Gestravia diaspora. The assembly is presided over by a President of the Assembly (speaker), who is assisted by at least one deputy speaker (usually two or three deputies). The current president of the national assembly is Ludomil Kohút (GSP) since 15 May 2015. The assembly convenes in the House of the National Assembly in Buria.
