Samukan, officially the United Republic of Samukan, is a country in mainland Kennan, bordered by United Solcialist States of Jakeopia to the northeast, Herodas to the southeast, and Sandwich Territories to the west. The total area of Samukan is about 360,000 square kilometers (140,000 sq mi). It is the founding nation of Kennan, and one of its most influential members, currently holding the title of Secretary of Administration.

Samukan is a federal presidential republic, headed by a central government containing the National Senate, High Court, President, and their Cabinet. The country is divided into twelve provinces, each with its own legislative body known as the Provincial Senate and led by a Governor. Provinces are further divided into prefectures, which act as minor administrative divisions surrounding a major city or town, and are primarily used for organizing emergency forces and school districts. The government is primarily controlled by the Liberal Democratic Party, the Conservative Party, the Labor Party, and the Nationalist Party, although smaller political parties hold some seats in the Provincial Senates.

Samukan is primarily made up of deciduous forests and grasslands, but the country also contains the Sky Mountains to the east. Rivers cross the nation, a geographic feature that was key in the establishment of trade between (and later unification of) the Samukanian city-states shortly after its establishment.

The area of land that now comprises Samukan was originally settled by explorers and traders in the first century C.E. The first cities were established on the coastline, but later settlements were formed on the rivers that flow deep into the country. Increased trade and friendly relations led to the unification of the city-states into a single nation on June 6, 286 C.E., when the Trans-Samukanian Unification Pact was ratified by all of the cities. The country was governed by a council of representatives from all member city-states, known as the Great Council.
