The Sandwich Territories, officially referred to as The Democratic Commonwealth of the Sandwich Territories, is a country located west of the mainland of Kennan. The Sandwich Territories are also located to the north of the Hackleberry Islands, to the east of The Bagel Lands, and to the south of Cortal. The Democratic Commonwealth consists of 7 sections, including 6 islands and 1 section of an island to the west of the Kennan mainland. It is the 5th largest nation in Kennan according to total area, and the 4th largest according to population (behind United Solcialist States of Jakeopia, Vinco and Cortal). It is one of the Kennan's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, due to the early trading importance of the island during European colonization, high immigration from other nations throughout the nation's history, and modern cultural acceptance policies. The climate and geographical features of the Sandwich Territories are highly diverse on the ambiguous mainland and on the overseas islands, as they feature many types of plants and animals.
Encouraged by reports of bountiful spices and good trading spots on islands around the 40th parallel north, Great Britain sent a group of settlers; led by Captain Henry Baldwin of Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire, England; to find these lands. On October 4th, 1543; during a storm, the expedition crashed into what is now known as the mainland of the Sandwich Territories. and the group settled the city of Port Trádáil; the modern day capital of the Sandwich Territories. Economic and naval issues between the Sandwich Colony and Great Britain led to colonists demanding independence. The Libertatem Carte was signed by Sandwichian politicians on January 21st, 1548, and Edward VI of England ratified the document, due the internal issues that Great Britain dealt with at the time.
After the Sandwich Territories were given independence, the Sandwichian population began the process of vigorous exploration and colonization of the region of Kennan. Led by several doctrines, the Sandwich Territories led a series of expansions, which gave an increase of knowledge and wealth for the nation. The expansions, explorations, and colonizing included cultural/economic trading between the region and the Sandwich Territories, acquiring new islands, and even forming many new nations; most notably the Hackleberry Islands. Other nations founded by Sandwichians include the Trident Pact nations, the New Celtic League nations, and Roytonburg. These nations are noted to be a part of the Sandwichsphere today.
The Sandwich Territories is a developed country, and it has one of the region's best GDP per capita rankings. The Sandwichian economy is post-industrial, although there continues to be manufacturing throughout the nation. The largest industry in the nation is the information technology sector, which has helped to advance the already well functioning educational and economic foundation of the nation. The Sandwich Territories also has one of the highest median income household and gross average wage rankings in Kennan. The nation also has the highest income equality in the region according to the GINI rankings. The highest amount of the budget is currently focused on military spending; which accommodates for roughly 28% of the Sandwichian budget. All of this has led the Sandwich Territories into having one of Kennan's more prominent militaries, one of the best economic and education systems in Kennan, and one of the most influential nations in Kennan.
