Demographics Demographics of Yulis

Yulis is a large nation in The Federation of Dethklok 1000. It was founded nearly 450 years ago by the Emperor of Hosbiarna and has since grown to outnumber its parent. Citizens enjoy advanced technology and a high standard of living. Yulis' population of 2.8 billion live in high density settlements around the Yulisian valley, situated on the Jobeïse Plateau. They are currently ruled by the Emperor Tældon I, who has done much to improve their standard of living.

Yulia was originally a colony of Hosbiarna, created by the Emperor Taukron I in 2079. It declared independence in 2106 and became the first nation to do so. Jamesk Beléyanse was crowned King the following year. Jamesk I soon became the dominant power over the Lonely Plains, with Hosbiarna succumbing to its Dark Ages. It became a haven for other recently independent nations or orphaned colonies. After Jamesk I's death in 2163 Yulis began to fall apart, the rivalry between Jamesk's four sons fuelling the fire. After the execution of Tælsten II (Jamesk I's unpopular grandson) a civil war broke out between Jamesk's second and third sons, Holthejän and Mærdek. Eventually in 2198 Holthejian forces won and captured the capital, New Hoz City. Emperor Bolskæn I of the Empire of Hosbiarna was crowned as the war still raged around him.

Bolskæn ordered the murder of all who swore allegiance to Tælsten and Mærdek, what followed was more of a bloody genocide than the assassination of high ranking officials. The result was the loss of 15% of Yulis' population and the dominance of the Holthejian aristocracy. Large numbers of Tælstenian and Mærdetian citizens fled to the surrounding countries, including western Hosbiarna, where a large Mærdetian population still exists. Emperor Bolskæn was executed by Taukron III of Hosbiarna after he tried to annex the south west of Hosbiarna. Bolskæn's son, Jamesk I, chose to avoid the wrath of the Hosbiarnan Emperor and looked to where the other Yulisians had fled to extend his land. In the west, in what was formerly Prolais, the Mærdetians had crowned a king, Dömendrál I, and built an army.

Dömendrál, a descendant of Mærdek considered himself the true Emperor of Yulis, on account of Bolskæn's origin of simply a general and not a royal. He believed that with the combined armies of the Mærdetians, the Holthejian Yulisians and the New Hosbiarnans they could defeat Taukron of Kæthlen and make Jobenoton the capital of the New Empire of Yulis. Jamesk I sent out troops to capture the cities of Karize and Diallen. In one famous battle, 16,000 Holthejian troops marched on Karize only to be greeted by 160,000 of Dömendrál's men. Jamesk's 16,000 were slaughtered and the city of Diallen was left untouched. For his birthday that year Jamesk recieved 16,000 yulisian army helmets, all were covered with the dried blood of those who had worn them.

Dömendrál set out for Holthejan and eventually captured the city, renaming it Mærdegárd. During a bloody seige many of Holthejän's population were lost, in revenge for the genocide 20 years before. The Mærdetian administration brought peace to Yulis. After testing the patience of Taukron III on the Hosbiarnan border Dömendrál chose not to risk a fate like Bolskæn's. He ruled his now huge empire until his death in 2250.

In 2259 a small Tælstenian rebellion began under the 18 year-old 'Duke of Tælstine'. After the rebellion was subdued it was confirmed he was indeed the great-great-great-grandson of King Tælsten I, descended from his second son (Tælsten II's uncle). This man, Jamesk of Tælstine, was stripped of his ducal title but he was made Mayor of Tælstine. In 2280 it was agreed, when Mærdek I was crowned Emperor, that the religious and political eponyms "Mærdek", "Tælsten" and "Holthejän" would fall out of use as given names and would become the surnames of the three families descended from King Jamesk I.

Mærdek I was followed by his son Jämesk III (who technically should have been Jamesk II, on account of the continuation from Emperor Jamesk I) who was crowned in 2320. Jämesk III had no sons so the throne passed to his daughter's son. Jämesk's daughter Meya had married the great-grandson of Jamesk of Tælsten, Jamesk Asmörne Tælsten. Their son, Asmörne was born in 2332. When Jämesk III died in 2348, his grandson became Emperor Asmörne I. When Asmörne the Imperial Family was now the House of Tælstine. Instead of renaming the capital city "Tælstine" (it had been "Mærdegárd" since 2220), Asmörne renamed it "Jaméor" and the city of New Asgard now became "Mærdegárd".

The 25th Century was a time of peace, Yulis' population mushroomed and surpassed that of Hosbiarna, greater civil rights were gained and the country settled into being its diverse, gargantuan and peaceful state.
