The Zin are a prominent alien race, that has conquered many worlds and galaxies all over the universe.

Overview

Zin soldiers.
The Zin are an intergalactic empire led by Emperor Zinyak.

Their homeworld is a distant planet known only as Zin, located in an unknown part of the universe. One key aspect of their culture is that all Zin youths are expected (at some point in their lives) to serve in the Zin military.

They are driven by conquest, traveling from planet to planet to abduct the best and brightest from the various sentient cultures they encounter. The Zin then place their captives into simulations of their deepest fears to mentally break them down and eventually subjugate them to serve the Zin Empire. They have an incredibly powerful fighting force, capable of conquering the entirety of civilizations in a very short amount of time.

Technology

The Zin are a highly technologically advanced species. Two of their most profound (and known) capabilities include the ability to destroy entire species and the ability to destroy entire planets. The Zin have also mastered the use of sorcery, as Zinyak appears to be capable of using telekinesis.

Simulations

Overview

The Zin have multiple virtual prisons in which captives are imprisoned in order to mentally break them, with each Simulation being based on the subject's deepest and darkest fears, or based on Zinyak's choice. The Simulations construction was overseen by Zinjai on behest of Zinyak and was later tested on Zinjai. There are thousands of simulations all specifically detailed, and designed upon the prisoner's nightmare, or based upon Zinyak's orders. Appearances and characteristics of the simulations vary based on the prisoner.

History

Becoming increasingly disappointed with simply destroying other cultures, Zinyak tasks Zinjai with building the Simulation, designed to contain what Zinyak deems the "best and brightest in the universe" and to break their wills and make them subservient to him.

To test the Simulation, Zinyak forces Zinjai to experience it himself; after several hours of hearing his screams echo through the ship, Zinyak releases Zinjai, who gives his "most whole-hearted approval" towards it. When asked about Zinjai's personal nightmare, Zinyak states, "To be honest, Zinjai didn't tell me what his deepest fear was and I didn't press the matter", instead content to have the Simulation: his reason for existence.

Specialists

The Zin have a number of units within their ranks which categorized into classes.

Murderbot

A Murderbot.
Murderbots are robots. In battle they are summoned via Portals and attack enemies by shooting at them with either the Lasergun Arm or the Minethrower Arm. When a Murderbot is destroyed, it may snap in half and the upper torso crawls towards enemies.

Marauder

Marauders' approach by rolling towards the target in ball form, completely invulnerable in this state. Once deployed, they attack an enemy by charging, and firing, a laser attack which inflicts serious damage, when the shot connects.

Warden

A Warden.
Wardens are among the most powerful Zin creatures and going up against one unprepared can be extremely hazardous and can have an unpredictable outcome. They are large, monstrous armored bipedal aliens that possess various glowing patterns and spikes all over their bodies.

Zin

In addition to the above units, the Zin Empire includes Powered Zin who spawn through portals within their ranks. These Zin carry either Dominators or Thumpguns and rarely Tyrants as main weapons, and also carry Suppression Grenades (like normal Zin soldiers). C.I.D.s usually attach themselves to Powered Zin or normal Zin.
Powered Zins.
Powered Zin are distinguished from regular Zin by their thinner appearance, darker skin, shoulder armor, and several red markings on their bodies.

Vehicles

Land

An Assert.
The Zin's main transport is the Assert, a hover car featuring a grey and red paint job which comes in both armed and unarmed variants. The Zin also possess a heavy hover tank known as the Destructor.

Aircraft

A Chrome Void.
The Zin's main aircraft is the Void, a UFO armed with a laser cannon and missile launchers. They also have a type of jetbike called the Xor, which almost always appears in pairs. Both of these vehicles operate in a manner similar to a VTOL.

Though never present outside of missions, the Zin also possess a large, armored transport which lacks an official designation. It is simply referred to as ZXS. ZXS is Zinyak's official transport.

Other

As they are a "space-faring" alien race, the Zin also have an unknown number of motherships and battle cruisers which make up the bulk of their invasion fleet.

Zinyak

Zinyak

Zinyak is an extraterrestrial warlord, the leader of the alien race known as the Zin. The supreme alien commander speaks with an upper class English accent and is described as being a fan of literature. Indeed, he states in his writings that it was his love for literature that inspired him and ultimately lead him to Earth.
Zinyak.
He would, from time to time make several references to his favorite literature: he can sometimes be referring to the entire first chapter of Pride and Prejudice; he may quote an entire passage of Macbeth, and would sometimes, in his writing and speech refer to several elements of Edgar Allan Poe's works; and he would compare his final confrontation with civilizations to that of Mercutio and Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet.

Zinjai

Zinjai is a Zin who serves as lieutenant and servant for Zinyak. While in charge of the military, Zinyak decides he needs a second-in-command – "someone who could be my eyes and ears and also tend to my every whim without question" – and he finds that characteristic in Zinjai: a "plucky young soldier, who stood cranial crown and shoulders above the rest".
Zinjai.
Zinyak puts Zinjai through a quiz to determine his understanding of basic etiquette, and he passes the test in spectacular fashion. Zinyak then formally naming Zinjai as his "lieutenant/servant".

Physically, despite being described by Zinyak as a "plucky young soldier", Zinjai appears timid and frail and lacks the bulky frame of his fellow Zin; he constantly has his hands clasped together, his back slightly arched, and his head lowered; this is a common visual trope used to highlight a subservient role.

Trivia

  • All Zin weaponry is either laser, or plasma.
