The Imperial Library of Diadochia also called the National Library of Diadochia is the national library of Diadochia, located in the capital of Atlantis. The Library was created with the original purpose of being the intended repository of all publications of Diadochia. The National Library is one of the largest libraries in all of Pandos

It contains numerous historical treasures; all works that have been printed in Diadochia since the 13th century are deposited there. Thanks to extensive donations in the past the library holds nearly all known Diadochian printed works back to the first Diadochian book, printed in 1461.

History

The Library in its current form was founded in 1214, four hundred years ago by Emperor Manuel I of Diadochia. The roots of what is now known as the National Library of Diadochia goes back to the days of Cassander IX of Diadochia of the 10th century. The Emperor collected books on a variety of subjects and even managed to write a few of his own. The collections of Cassander IX were expanded by Nikolas II of Diadochia (1014-1066), Alexios III of Diadochia (1101-1139), Michael IV of Diadochia (1156-1189), Manuel I of Diadochia (1212-1248).

Under the Library Decree of 1214, all book printers in Diadochia were required by law to submit two copies of everything they printed – one copy for the National Archives and the other for the National Library. This decree more than doubled the size of the collection

The collection was greatly expanded through the various wars of Constantine IV of Diadochia in the late 1500s. Several large book collections, either donated or purchased, came to the National Library in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

Significant holdings

The National Library has acquired various books of note over the years. The holdings include an almost complete collection of every Diadochian printed book since 1461. All books in the collection from 1214 to 1461 are not printed they were hand copied or written.

The collections of the National Library consists of more than 150 million objects, including 14 million books, 800,000 serial titles, 350,000 manuscripts, and many posters, pictures, newspapers, and much more.
