Novonaya is a city in western Lupinissia, a province of Kelssek. It is the second-largest city and metropolitan area in the province. The city was the ancient political centre of the Vanardians, a largely nomadic horse-oriented culture which ranged throughout the Yasterian grasslands. Located on major land trading routes, it grew as a trading centre frequented by nomadic pastoralists and was the residence and fortress of the Vanardian warlords and elder councils who had authority over disputes and the organization of raids on sedentary farmers and towns of the grasslands.

The city's main industries are natural resources (principally uranium and potash), agriculture (most importantly wheat and cattle), higher education, and chemical processing. The University of Novonaya is based in the city. Its tourism sector capitalizes on the city's frontier image, history, and Vanardian culture, with the Prairelands Park a popular attraction for its portrayals of Vanardian horse-raider mythologies and the annual Lupinissia Fair.

Geography and climate

Novonaya is located on a grassland and experiences a semi-arid continental climate, with dry cold winters and temperate summers. The Bilant river passes through the city, with the ancient core and historical zones located on the river's western banks.

Sports

The city's professional sports teams are the Rotor Novonaya club, which has teams in the top divisions of rugby union and water polo, and the Auroras Hockey team.
