The PAV-22 Air Defense System (Priz: Pantser-Antilufftavwerräsystem 22 / Eng: Armored Anti-Air System 22) is a highly mobile tactical surface-to-air missile platform developed by The United Federation of Prizyetsa which operates using several missile systems ranging from short-range to medium and long range missile systems and is produced by Sverd Industries. A version of the PAV which allows for the deployment of lang-range anti-air missiles and anti-ballistic missiles is designated PAV-25. A further upgraded version, the PAV-28, is also under development.

Development

As the capabilities of attacking militaries increased, namely in the field of aerospace technology, it became apparent that static anti-air defenses were become an obsolete thing of the past. To address this issue, the Prizyetsi government issued a requirement for a mobile surface-to-air (SAM) platform capable of reaching targets out to medium bracket distances in order to protect and deny airspace from foreign powers. By 1983 the PAV-22 prototype was already in testing, and scored well across the board when matched with the then new SA-35 surface to air missile which was also undergoing testing at the point.

The first deployment of the PAV-22 system in a fully operational role came in 1989 with the Lannsävakt (National Guard) around the north-eastern coast of Prizyetsa to guard from possible threats posed by the former-Sovietyeto. Over the course of its service with the Prizyetsi armed forces, the PAV-22 system has seen numerous upgrades which keep it up to date with the challenges faced on the contemporary battlefield.

Description

The PAV-22, and the later PAV-25 variant, are built on a specially developed tracked chassis. The PAV-22's chassis is one of the first of its kind, in that it makes extensive use of lightweight composite materiels and alloys which were cutting edge at the time. The system features six pairs of road wheels, a pair of drive wheels in the front and a pair of drive idlers in the rear of the vehicle. The system's engine is a 1200 horsepower 12 cylinder diesel engine. The system's max transit range is 540km without refueling.

The PAV-22 launch system carries six SA-35 missiles on an erector-launcher carried on a fully traversable turret. The system is able to independently target and engage two targets at a time on its own, and with the command and control vehicle, several vehicles can coordinate and engage up to twenty targets per battery. After the vehicle's missiles are launched, a support vehicle can reload the launcher in as little as fifteen minutes.

PAV-28

Upgraded version with improved targeting systems. The "A" variant fires the SA-35 missile while the "B" variant fires the SA-50 missile.

Missiles

SA-30

The Sverd SA-30 Missile "Falk" (Falcon) is a medium range surface to air missile designed for area denial and defense against aerial targets, and is the latest development of the medium-ranged part of the Prizyetsi SA family. The SA-30 system is capable of targeting both aircraft and missile systems. With a range of up to 150km at mach 3.4, and an operational ceiling of 100km, the SA-30 system is a flexible part of Prizyetsa's missile defense system.

SA-50

The Sverd SA-50 Missile "Osspri" (Osprey) surface to air missile is a medium to long range surface to air missile designed to intercept both aircraft and ballistic missiles in it's A and B variants respectively. With a range of 475km and speed of over mach 4, as well as an operational ceiling of 400km, the SA-50 forms the long range bracket of the Prizyetsi missile and air defense program. The SA-50 tracks targets with the aid of the MGRS system, which constantly feeds information to each other via either satellite link or optical transmission. Once the missile is within range of the target, the missile switches over to it's internal guidance systems.

Operators

While the PAV-22 platform was originally developed and produced by Sverd for the Prizyetsi military, it became apparent that a system of this nature might sought after by foreign militaries as well. In order to cater to these potential buyers, Sverd Industries offered an export version it exported as the PAV-22E (Armored Anti-Air System -- Export).

The Palmerian government showed interest in the PAV-22E variant, and after a live fire demonstration held in the United Federation of Prizyetsa, an initial order of 50 units was made with the option of additional purchases.

The Absurranian government also showed interest in the surface to air defense system. Negotiations on the potential sale of the system are ended with an agreement in which Sverd agreed to sell 75 PAV-22E units to the Absurranian military.
