Polation Presidential Elections, December 2016

The Presidential Elections of December 2016 are the final and completing election of the Polation Executive Elections for the year of 2016. It is expected that the interim council of 3 nations will exist alongside the President and Vice President until the February Elections whereby directly electing the council will return. The election was declared a 3-way election after the candidacy of the Mason Party was announced, thus resulting in the usage of the instant-runoff preferential system. The election date was declared the commissioner to be on the 17th of December where results would be published within 36 hours of the polls closing on the following day.
The victor will be sworn in on the 1st of January allowing time for recounts if deemed necessary.

Background
The election was declared by the Saren Parliament to be at the discretion of the Prime Minister of Sarenium who in turn decided to confer with Saren partners on the Polation Council. After discussion, the date was settled to be the traditional, third Saturday of the election month. The first to declare candidacy was the Vaquasian Government after Ambassador Riley of Sarenium announced that the Saren Government would not seek re-election to the Presidency. Vaquas/Ivy Hinterlands was expected to maintain their lead and speculation of a Xotrayjan/Cyrodiiill election attempt also occurred but both nations rejected any such notions. The Vyrmshirean/Apayre candidacy was seen as a moderate choice by the majority of voters between the Vaquasian or Texan candidacies.
