Pratse (/'præt.sə/; Pratsean: Prötseg) officially The Tetrarchy of Pratse (Pratsean: Vietrachien der Prötseg) is a sovereign country located in West Valm in the Western part of the Hermania continent, in the region of Hemithea. The country borders Schwarzmark to the north and Kemen to the northeast. Its capital and largest city is Pratterhof. Pratse covers an area of approximately 2,291,300 km2 and has a largely temperate seasonal climate. With a population of about 600 million, Pratse is one of the most densely populated countries in Hemithea and one of the most populous states in the Valmast area of Hemithea. Pratse is a large economic power in Hermania and a historic leader in many cultural, theoretical and technical fields. It is a significantly popular migration destination in the world.
A diverse number of Germanic tribes occupied what is now Pratse for millennia. The region was first documented by the Valmese Empire before !00 CE and known as Pratsia, which was locally corrupted into Prötseg. Following the decline and collapse of the Valmese Empire, Pratse once again split into a plethora of quarrelsome tribes and kingdoms. In the 14th century, the Kingdom of Viesturs arose in the north of Pratse and soon after entered a personal union with the Kingdom of Arkady, which eventually linked both crowns together into the crown of the Hof Union. The enlarged Kingdom of Viesturs became the center of the Great Enlightening, a religious reformation, in the 16th century. After a series of wars and diplomatic maneuvers against the various kingdoms of the South, the Old Tetrarchy was established in 1614 CE.
Due to the standard of living in the nineteenth century, which was considered sub-par by many Pratseans, and the industrial revolution and the Golden Age of Pratsean Philosophy, the Revolutions of 1848 began. For nearly a year, the nation was in an all-out civil war between the Liberals and Proletariat and the Conservatives and Reactionaries. The Government of Pratse lost control of the armed forces and many of the functions of the government: whole units of the army defected to either of both sides. Following the destruction of the country and the victory of the Liberals, the nation was reformed into the New Tetrarchy of 1849, in which universal male franchise was given and workers' and women's rights were greatly advanced. The constitution adopted by the New Tetrarchy is known as The Second Constitution of Pratse. An updated version of the constitution, which includes other rights such as women's rights, is still active in the nation to this day.
Pratse has the world's sixth-largest GDP, and the second-largest in GDP per capita. As a leader in several industrial and technological sectors, it is the seventh largest exporter and sixth largest importer of goods. Pratse is a developed country with a very high standard of living, featuring comprehensive social security with universal health care and full LGBT rights, among others. Known for its rich cultural and political history, Pratse has been the home of a multitude of philosophers, artists and scientists. Pratse is considered a secondary power in the world, largely because of its general isolation and mild autarkic policies.

Since the reformation of Pratse in the establishment of the New Tetrarchy in 1849, Pratse has laid claim to the island group of Great Pripasov. Great Pripasov was first invaded by the Kingdom of Breshears in the 16th century, when the eponymous Duchy of Pripasov was removed from the map in a single, skillful strike. Pripasov remained a possession of the Crown of Breshears until the revolutions of 1848.
Pratse would be forced to give the island independence during the Revolutions of 1848, when the United Tetrarchy of Pratse saw itself fighting a multiple-front war against revolutionaries and invaders. While Pratse was negotiating this difficult time, Pripasov rose in arms against Pratsean occupation and thus the War of Pripasovian Independence began.
The war opened with the Battle of Carth-am-Grüber, when a Pripasovian corps ambushed the small garrison and overwhelmingly destroyed it. There was no attempt to retake the island from the rebels, and the only other battles fought in the war were those that pitted the Loyalists against the Independists.
