The Prime Minister of the Rethymnian Federation (Greek: Πρωθυπουργός τῆς Ῥεθυμνιακὴς Ὁμοσπονδίας) also known as the Prime Minister of the Government (Greek: Πρωθυπουργός τῆς Κυβερνήσεως) was the Head of Government of the Rethymnian Federation before the re-establishment of the Imperial Government in 2540, after the Imperial Party won the election.

Appointment of the Prime Minister

Unlike the President, the Prime Minister was not directly elected by the people. Instead he, as well as the other ministers of the state, were directly appointed by the President. This was due to the belief that the president should have the ability to appoint whomever he thinks is best for the position, so it was not uncommon for a president of a leftist party to appoint a right-wing Prime Minister. Each Prime Minister served for 4 years and after the end of the term the President could re-appoint the same Prime Minister with a maximum of three terms. In the case of a President being elected out of office, the new President could either re-appoint the previous Prime Minister, or replace him even if the 4 year term had not finished.

Powers

The Prime Minister held limited powers. For the most part he relayed presidential orders to the other ministers and regulated the function of the ministries.

Oath of Office

Before taking office, the Prime Minister was sworn in inside the Federal Parliament by the Patriatch of Saint Constantinopolis (the head of the Church of Rethymnon). The Patriarch begins with a few prayers and the Kyrie Eleison, and then the Prime Minister places his hand on the Bible placed in between two lit candles, all on a table between him and the Patriarch. Following after the Patriarch, the Prime Minister and recites the following oath:

"I swear (in the name of the Holy, Consubstantial and Indivisible Trinity) to safeguard the Constitution and the laws and to serve the general interest of the Rethymnian People."

The Patriarch then recites a few more blessings, and the participants make the Sign of the Cross three times. The Patriarch then congratulates the new Prime Minister, who then shakes hands with the President before the pertinent documents are signed.
