Princess Sophia of Brasland (born 1991) is the daughter of King Paul II and Princess Arabella of New Chalcedon.

Life in Brasland

Although she was born in Brasland, she grew up in Constantinopolis Secundus (New Chalcedon), where her family lived in exile. In 2009 the monarchy was restored and she returned to her homeland. Her brother, King George IV, relied on her advice and asked her to host a meeting of regional representatives to discuss the extent of the potential damage of a sophisticated weapon called SEVEN, created by Solisbury. During the talks, she offended some of the delegations with her remarks, prompting the King to remove her from her position and withdrawing his trust on her. By that time, Sophia was very interested in politics and had the ambition to become a relevant figure in the government, but her brother's actions left her with no official role.

George IV distrusted his sister's ambitions and wanted her to stay out of politics, but Sophia refused to accept this and became a member of Parliament, using an old privilege accorded to the children of kings. This step was unprecedented, as no member of the royal family had used it, because it was tacitly understood that the King's family should not intervene in partisan politics. Princess Sophia's decision was an open challenge to her brother, and there was fear that an open confrontation between the two could harm the monarchy, who had been just restored a few years ago. To avoid a crisis after months of tensions, the King proposed a solution: Sophia would leave Parliament and he would give her the rule of a small province in southern Brasland, Lansborn. She was created Duchess of Lansborn, a personal title that cannot pass to her descendants. It was agreed that she would rule Lansborn for the rest of her life, unless she voluntarily renounces her rights.

Although the Princess's relationship with the King was severely damaged, it was gradually -although not completely- repaired. George IV appointed her as his representative on several occasions, and in this capacity she has travelled to Aerion, Nordmark, Sabaristan and Ostmark, among other places.

Duchess of Lansborn

Sophia has become a very popular ruler of her small vassal state. She has promoted the arts and sports, as well as inviting foreign economic delegations to visit the duchy and invest in it. She is also the founder of the Ducal University of Lansborn, the duchy's first college.

Private life

In 2014, the Duchess became engaged to Prince Andreus Capet, Despot of New Constantinople. He is the heir to the imperial throne of Pantocratoria. They married in New Rome on April 11th, 2015.
