Lucia (née Lucia Maria Carita Borghini di Ordetto; born December 24, 1936) is the Dowager Queen consort of Friskland. Married to Henrik VII of Friskland for fifty-three years, she stood alongside him as his queen consort for the duration of their thirty-four year-long reign until his death in 2012.

Over the course of her time as Queen, Lucia has been a champion of the arts and culture, serving as patron of many arts and charities organisations. She has also served as an unofficial ambassador between Friskland and Italy, the country of her birth.

She remains active as a public member of the royal family, carrying out duties and attending state functions. She remains one of the most popular members of the family.

Early life

Lucia di Ordetto was born on Christmas Eve 1936 in Rome, Italy. Her father, Giancarlo di Ordetto, was an Italian businessman, and member of the noble Ordetto family. Her mother, Serafina, was also of the Italian nobility, from the Borghini family. Lucia has mainly Italian heritage, with some Shilha Berber heritage from her maternal grandmother, Tafsut "Maria" Zeroual, who was born in Ottoman Tripolitania, present-day Libya. Lucia was the youngest of her parents' three children; she had an older sister- Margarita Anna, and an older brother, Franco Angelo.

Lucia was raised as a Roman Catholic, and attended religious schools in Italy. She became a representative for her father's business, attending meetings and functions.

Marriage and family

Lucia met her future husband, the then-Crown Prince Henrik of Friskland, for the first time at a charity gala event in Rome, in 1958. They began dating shortly after, and were engaged in February 1959. They married on November 25, 1959 at the Royal Chapel in Jättenholm.

Lucia and Henrik have four children, twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren:

Queen of Friskland

Upon her marriage to Henrik, Lucia became Crown Princess of Friskland. She began to learn Swedish and went on a tour of the country in February of 1960. In June 1960, it was announced that Lucia was pregnant with the couple's first child. On December 12, 1960, Prince Carl Vilhelm was born. The family then moved into Ekholm Palace, where they operated from for the next eighteen years. Over the course of the next six years, the couple went on to have three other children: Prince Richard in 1963, Princess Lovisa in 1965, and Princess Celesta in 1966.

In 1975, Lucia's husband became Prince Regent when his father, King Carl Vilhelm V, had become to ill to exercise his duties. Lucia and the children remained at Ekholm, whilst Henrik stayed in Jättenholm for long periods.

When Carl Vilhelm V died on May 19, 1978, Henrik was confirmed as the new sovereign. Lucia became Queen consort and the family travelled to Jättenholm shortly after. They moved permanently to Jättenholm Royal Palace two months later.

Charity work

Throughout her time as a member of the royal family, Lucia has devoted a lot of time to charity patronage and ambassadorship. She currently serves as patron of over 120 charities in both Friskland and Italy, donating both financial and personal support.

In 1980, Lucia established the Carita Fund, named for her paternal great-grandmother- Carita Origliasso Carluccio. The Carita Fund aims to help disadvantaged young people in Friskland find support and help that they require. It also makes grants and donations to other smaller charities which focus on the youth, homelessness and community projects.
