Ameranta

Ameranta is an historical region of NationStates, originally founded by IMDbers in March 2005. It is also known as the historical home of prominent UN/WA members like Omigodtheykilledkenny and Cobdenia. The region had died out by the end of the year.

However, it still boasts an important backstory in Kennyite history, being the ancient homeland the Xtapolopaqetl natives, and where various missionary peoples visited until the Kennyites' arrival somewhere around the late 1700s. Ameranta was reputed to be a green and pleasant continent with thick, luscious forests and beautiful sandy beaches. It was also supposed to be peaceful -- although the violence of the Xtaps sort of canceled out that aspect of the colonial world. If Ameranta loosely resembled the American continental landmass, then Cobdenia would be located roughly where Bermuda is, and Omigodtheykilledkenny where Mexico is.

Most of the continent was wiped out by a seismic catastrophe in mid-2005, and although Cobdenia was spared (partly because it's an island hundreds of miles off the coast, partly because it's located 75 years in the past), the Kennyites had to escape to a new refuge in Antarctic Oasis. There still exists a small Kennyite colony in the Southern Hemisphere relatively close to the Antarctic, and the nation of Aundotutunagir, close to an NS parallel of Tierra del Fuego. All remaining nations are politically aligned with Antarctic Oasis.

Gameplay history

Television editor Lamont Smith founded Ameranta with his first NS nation, Vandross, and soon invited a bunch of his friends from the IMDb forums to join. Unfortunately, some of the white-supremacist trolls from those forums, who liked to bait Smith because he was black, also got the memo. This inspired a flame war on the Gameplay forum in Ameranta's recruitment thread. A month passed, and Smith soon got bored; he started ejecting nations he considered too dictatorial for the region. One nation who chose an issue option allowing for sex-slaves to be walked around in public even got the boot. All told Ameranta lasted only a few months before eventually dying out. Smith founded another Luther Vandross-inspired nation along with another IMDb-centered region a couple years later and invited a new crop of players to join. It too died out.
