Hemithea

Hemithea is a large region, with a bustling and busy community, numbering 50 nations and only 14 World Assembly Members.

In Hemithea, denizens enjoy their civil rights, although not too much, or too freely. Nations in the region are considered developing democracies, with some political freedoms afforded to denizens. The economy of the region is very strong, with a large number of very powerful trading powers. Denizens suffer under an enormous tax burden throughout the region, with a median tax rate of 52%, and much higher for the wealthy. The economies of nations in the region tend to be weighted more towards the private sector, with on average only 45% of the economy comprising the public sector. Commerce is a priority for governments, accounting for an average of 5% of public expenditure.

Education is a priority for governments throughout Hemithea, with ample funding being provided and teachers enjoying a great deal of support. Crime is low: the region enjoys well-equipped and well-funded police forces, coupled with efficient but fair judicial systems. Defense is a major priority for governments within the region, with a large chunk of government budgets being devoted to it. Public transport is a popular mode of transport in the region, receiving on average of 3% of total government budgets.

Governments in Hemithea communicate very well amongst themselves, with administration departments working smoothly, with 4% on average of government budgets being devoted to Administration. Some government provision is made for healthcare, but at an average of only 4% the provision for healthcare in the region is paltry. Welfare in the region is minimal, with only a small amount of expenditure being devoted to spending on social security. Governments in the region are avowedly atheist - no public funds are allocated to spirituality.

Social inequality is rife amongst the nations within Hemithea. Natural environments are quite bad, although some measures have been undertaken to ensure that the environment is protected.

Overview

Hemithea is a geographical region and community of nations located around four continents and minor sub-continents. Climatically the region varies from the icy cold seas north of Feroxi through extensive maritime temperate zones where most of the nations are located through to the humid equatorial tropics, and thence on to temperate climates in the southern hemisphere seen in the United Realms of Libraria and Ausitoria (a nation which considers itself part of both Panessos and Hemithea).
