New Sparrow is a minuscule region, inhabited by a few solitary nations.
The straight-backed, broad-smiling populace of New Sparrow eagerly dismissed concerns of oppression. Nations in the region are considered developing democracies, with some political freedoms afforded to denizens. The economy of the region is very strong, with a large number of very powerful trading powers. Denizens tend to pay their taxes quickly and quietly, with a median tax rate of 17%. The economies of nations in the region tend to be heavily weighted towards the public sector, with on average only 37% of the economy comprising the private sector. Commerce is a major priority of national governments within the region, most of whom are trading nations, as is evidenced by the fact that commerce budgets account for an average of 15% of public expenditure in the region.
Denizens of the New Sparrow are poorly educated, with rampant illiteracy. The region's law enforcement is arguably too well-equipped and overzealous, arresting citizens who dare to commit the most minor of infractions. Defense is a major priority for governments within the region, with a large chunk of government budgets being devoted to it. Public transport is a popular mode of transport in the region, receiving on average of 4% of total government budgets.
Throughout New Sparrow, governments find themselves confused, with administration departments being so bloated that staff do not know what other staff are doing, with an average of over 9% of government budgets being devoted to Administration. Governments bestow their healthcare departments with a gargantuan amount of funding, with an average of 11% of government budgets across the region being heaped on to healthcare. No welfare is provided in the region. Those unlucky enough to fall into unemployment are forgotten and abandoned. Governments within the region are fixated with religious worship, with nations having an inordinately high average of 11% of total government funds devoted to it.
In New Sparrow, denizens benefit from a good balance of social equality and motivation for advancement, although aspiration is the priority. Natural environments are quite bad, although some measures have been undertaken to ensure that the environment is protected.
