The Apartment Block is a small region, sparsely populated by only 6 nations and only 4 World Assembly Members.
In The Apartment Block, denizens enjoy their civil rights, although not too much, or too freely. Nations in the region are healthy democracies, with denizens being afforded an extensive array of political freedoms. The economy of the region is very strong, with a large number of very powerful trading powers. Inhabitants of the region ultimately pay most of their earnings to the government, as the median tax rate is 86%, or more! The economies of nations in the region are perfectly balanced between public and private sectors, with both comprising 50% of economic activity within the nations. Commerce is low priority for governments, accounting for an average of 2% of public expenditure, although commerce is generally seen as a source of tax revenue.
In The Apartment Block, denizens are afforded a reasonable education, although funding is somewhat wanting. The region's law enforcement officials try hard to combat a relatively high level of crime, but are hampered by a lack of funding. Denizens have well-funded defense forces. Public transport is a popular mode of transport in the region, receiving on average of 3% of total government budgets.
Nobody really knows about the state of administration in The Apartment Block. Observers asked for information, but found nobody was available to take calls. Governments in the region are avowedly atheist - no public funds are allocated to spirituality.
Social inequality is a major problem within The Apartment Block, although some effort has been made to correct the problem. The environments of the nations in the region are almost universally appalling.
