The Hinterlands is a minuscule region, inhabited by a few solitary nations.
The straight-backed, broad-smiling populace of The Hinterlands eagerly dismissed concerns of oppression. Political freedom does not exist. The region is recognized as an extreme dictatorship. Economies in the region tend to be stronger than average. Denizens tend to pay their taxes quickly and quietly, with a median tax rate of 19%. The economies of nations in the region tend to be heavily weighted towards the private sector, with on average 38% of the economy comprising the public sector. Commerce is a priority for governments, accounting for an average of 6% of public expenditure.
Denizens of the The Hinterlands are poorly educated, with rampant illiteracy. The region's law enforcement officials try hard to combat a relatively high level of crime, but are hampered by a lack of funding. Defense is a major priority for governments within the region, with a large chunk of government budgets being devoted to it. Public transport is a popular mode of transport in the region, receiving on average of 6% of total government budgets.
Nobody really knows about the state of administration in The Hinterlands. Observers asked for information, but found nobody was available to take calls. Some government provision is made for healthcare, but at an average of only 3% the provision for healthcare in the region is paltry. Welfare in the region is minimal, with only a small amount of expenditure being devoted to spending on social security. Governments within the region are fixated with religious worship, with nations having an inordinately high average of 11% of total government funds devoted to it.
In The Hinterlands, Social inequality is total, with wealth being held by a tiny fraction of the region's populace. Natural environments are quite bad, although some measures have been undertaken to ensure that the environment is protected.
