The Rim

The Rim is a minuscule region, inhabited by a few solitary nations.

Throughout The Rim, traditions are kept strictly throughout the region, punishing upstarts and rabble-rousers harshly. Nations in the region are considered developing democracies, with some political freedoms afforded to denizens. Families in the region are so obsessed with the economy that the discussion of laffer curves and supply-side reforms over dinner is a regular occurrence in member nations. Income taxes are unheard of amongst the denizens of the region. The economies of nations in the region tend to be dominated by the private sector, with on average only 8% of the economy comprising the public sector. Commerce is a priority for governments, accounting for an average of 6% of public expenditure.

In The Rim, denizens are afforded a reasonable education, although funding is somewhat wanting. The region's law enforcement is arguably too well-equipped and overzealous, arresting citizens who dare to commit the most minor of infractions. Defense is an overarching priority for governments within the region. One might suggest they are compensating for something. Public transport is a popular mode of transport in the region, receiving on average of 3% of total government budgets.

Nobody really knows about the state of administration in The Rim. Observers asked for information, but found nobody was available to take calls. Some government provision is made for healthcare, but at an average of only 1% the provision for healthcare in the region is paltry. No welfare is provided in the region. Those unlucky enough to fall into unemployment are forgotten and abandoned. Governments within the region are fixated with religious worship, with nations having an inordinately high average of 11% of total government funds devoted to it.

In The Rim, Social inequality is total, with wealth being held by a tiny fraction of the region's populace. The environments of the nations in the region are almost universally appalling.
