Stavros Manikas

Stavros Manikas (Greek: Σταύρος Μανίκας) born 27 April 1962) is a Diadochian Conservative politician. He has been the Minister of Finance, since his appointment in April 2010. He has been the Member of Parliament for Tiryns since 1992.


Early Life

Manikas was born in Atlantis and is the eldest of three. His father and grandfather founded Manikas & Sons, an agribusiness in the Argolis-Tiryns area. His father George Manikas is also the 17th Varonétos (Baronet) Manikas and is wealthy landowner in the Tiryns area, where the family comes from. Manikas was educated at independent Boarding schools, Dafni School and Akrisíou School. Manikas attended the University of Olympias where he studied economics.

Political Career

Manikas was elected as the Member of Parliament for Tiryns, Argolis in 1992 winning 55.8% of the votes.

Personal Life

Manikas married Maria Angelica Papadaki in 1989. Manikas and his wife have two children, a boy and a girl. Being the son of a big landowner, Manikas has an estimated personal fortune of 16 million Solidus, derived from his 11 per cent stake in Manikas & Sons, the agribusiness that dominates the economy of Tiryns. His father has a 56 per cent stake in Manikas & Sons, with controlling interest. His siblings each have a 11 percent stake left to them by their grandfather upon his death in 1993.
