Staynes and sometimes North Staynes since the independence of South Staynes is a country in the United Kingdom. It shares land borders with South Staynes to its south, Caltharus to the east, Axdel to the west and Ethalria to the south-east.

The area now called Staynes was first inhabited by modern humans around 20,000 years ago, but takes its name from the Staynische, one of the Eastern-Auroran tribes who settled during the 1st and 2nd centuries. Staynes became a unified state in the 10th century, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. The Staynish language, the Juliakese Church, and Staynish law – the basis for the common law legal systems of many other countries around the world – developed in Staynes, and the country's parliamentary system of government has been adopted by a respectable count of other nations.

Staynes' terrain mostly comprises low hills and plains, especially in central and western Staynes. However, there are uplands in the south (for example, the Zycannes and the mountainous Petenta District) and in the southwest (Zycannes). The capital is Sani Bursil, which has the largest metropolitan area in both the United Kingdom and the Auroran Union. Staynes' population of over 102 million comprises 86.4% of the population of the United Kingdom, largely concentrated around Sani Bursil, the West Coast, and conurbations in the Midlands, the Far North East, and Horkalo, which each developed as major industrial regions during the 19th century.

Staynes is arguably one of the oldest standing nations in Aurora, originally as Morstaybishlia for 543 years until it unified with Caltharus under Lambertus III during the Battle for Caltharus in 1515 where it was renamed the Morstaybishlian Empire. The monarchy has been in existence since the Pip the Gallant united two tribes in 884 where Fort Jubrayn and its surrounding area is located. As a result of the Auroran Imperial War, on the 6th of June 1975, South Staynes seceded from the Kingdom. The Kingdom of Staynes ceased being a separate sovereign state on the 16th December 2016, when the Acts of Union put into effect the terms agreed in the Treaty of Union the previous year, resulting in a political union with the Kingdom of Justelvard to create the United Kingdom of Staynes and Justelvard.

Staynes is a developed country and is considered to have a high-income economy and is categorised as high in the Human Development Index. There is a total GDP per capita of ♅--,--- in Staynes and its dependencies, which is rich. Staynes has remained as a highly influential core country especially influencing events in Aurora. It is a recognised nuclear weapons state. Staynes is a founding member of the Auroran Union, as well as being one of the two founders of the Staynish-Caltharus Empire.
