The Cardiff-Steagall Act 2012

The Cardiff-Steagall Act of 2012 barred all parties whose candidates did not meet the Party's nomination requirement from entering the election. This legislation was overturned by the Supreme Court case 'Cardiff v. Election Commission' for infringing on the 'Right to Run for Office' once a candidate meets the constitutional requirements. However, the act was legitimate during the time period which it was effective. As a result of the Cardiff-Steagall Act, almost all third party candidates could not enter the 2012 Presidential race.
