Yuri IV (Mahigian: Yuri Yurivich Kamenev IV) (March 20, 1815 - July 8, 1887) was the last emperor of Laiatan. His official short title was Imperator Yuri IV, Emperor and Autocrat of the Lupines. Like other Laiatanese Emperors he is commonly known by the monarchical title Imper.

Yuri IV ruled from July 16, 1841 until his assassination on July 8, 1887. His reign saw the expansion of reforms that were begun by his late father Yuri III. His reign saw Imperial Laiatan shift from an autocratic state to a much more democratic one within twenty years. Political enemies - notably conservatives and those on the right in the Imperial Council - called him Yuri the Destroyer, while supporters called him Yuri the Reformer.

Under his rule, the Laiatanese Empire flourished. The atmosphere of reform helped push scientific, medical, political, and social advancements. The country remained at peace with itself and neighbors during the entirety of his rule, excluding the occasional border dispute. The years from 1846 to 1871 are known as the Third Golden Age within the Laiatanese Federation.

However, much of this reform only affected lupines. The small human minority of the country were badly treated, and were considered second-class citizens under Imperial law. Hope for the humans of Laiatan appeared in the 1880s when Yuri voiced his concerns over the treatment of humans, but were ultimately squashed when Yuri buckled to pressure from the Imperial Council.

This would ultimately be his downfall as he and several other high ranking members of the Imperial Government were targeted in a successful assassination plot. Yuri IV was the only fatality, and the survivors would go on to help further reform the government and usher in a new age of democracy to the lupine territory.

Early Life

Disposition

Yuri Yurivich Kamenev was born March 20, 1815 at the Forest Palace in Volkgoroda, Laiatanese Empire, the eldest son of Imperator Yuri III of Laiatan and his wife Tatiana Vinukorova.

Yuri's disposition was much like his caring, even-handed father. He was an enthusiastic student of philosophy and the arts, and spent much of his early life reading and spending time with his nose in books. He was incredibly well-spoken, and performed regularly in his school's plays. While he enjoyed the arts and learning, he was by no means conceited. He was quite respectful towards fellow nobles and the peasantry, even when he became Imperator. He was a tall man, standing at roughly six foot three inches and was noted for his physical fitness.

He was also an excellent marksman and enjoyed hunting during vacations in the Empire's northern territories. He was known for his love of nature, and when he became Imperator, establishing of many of the country's national parks and nature preserves.
