An occupation division is a military formation in the military of Rotgeheim with the sole responsibility of advancing into territory already captured by advancing friendly forces and establishing the rules and laws of a the Rotgeheiman military. It typically has a larger number of troops than regular divisions, coming in around 18,000 to 22,000 troops. Its tasks include anti-partisan operations, securing and maintaining order in cities and towns, and establishing supply depots and communications lines. It is commanded by a Generalmajor (Brigadier General).

Purpose

The concept of the occupation division was devised to relieve the increasing responsibilities that advancing divisions are faced with that include interacting with civilians in hostile areas. Front line divisions, it was thought, should have the sole responsibility of engaging and defeating enemy forces. When divisions get too preoccupied with maintaining order in captured towns and cities, their ability to engage the enemy is diminished. Thus, the occupation division was born. These divisions are designed to effectively secure hostile areas behind the front line, maintain order in captured town and cities, and conduct anti-partisan operations during long-term occupations. These divisions are often tasked with establishing supply points, communications lines, and collecting and housing large numbers of enemy POWs.

Equipment

Like other troops in the Verteidigungsstaffel, troops in occupation divisions are issued StG-14 assault rifles, StG-12 squad assault weapons, and MG-12 machine guns. Troops also come equipped with the standard complement of hand grenades, and heavy weapons companies are equipped with varyinng calibers of mortars. Occupation divisions also utilize many armored vehicles that possess their own defensive capabilities. Most of the equipment utilized by the troops are defensive, since the nature of the division is to defend captured areas and the units are seldom in an offensive role.

Composition

Occupation divisions are built like infantry divisions bolstered with heavy complements of armored vehicles, anti-tank weaponry, and anti-aircraft weaponry. A complement of armored fighting vehicles (such as tanks and tank destroyers) are included, although in smaller numbers than would be featured in divisions designed for offensive roles.
