The XXIX VS-Besatzungskorps (29th VS-Occupation Corps) is a corps-sized military formation of the Rotgeheiman Verteidigungsstaffel that is responsible for occupying captured territory that is strategically important in wartime. It is made up of currently two divisions that total around 40,000 troops and is commanded by Generalleutnant Werner Bretschneider-Reichenbach.
Background
Similar to the formation of the XX VS-Besatzungskorps, the XXIX was formed during conflict in the supposed instance that strategically important territory would need to be occupied. These divisions would be tasked with heading into these important areas, securing them, and instilling Rotgeheiman law and order. By detailing purpose-built units to perform these duties, combat units would no longer have this responsibility weighed upon them and could continue their primary (and most important) mission – engaging the enemy.
Because the civilian populations of conquered areas are known to be hostile to occupying forces, the troops in occupation divisions are trained to quickly put down any organized or unorganized insubordination towards Rotgeheiman troops. The occupation troops follow a looser set engagement rules in order to more efficiently deal with local insurrectionist activities.
The XXIV VS-Besatzungskorps was formed in early 1916 as part of a troop surge to invade and occupy Scheinfeld.
