August Julius Edgar Hartmann (20 August 1887 – 21 April 1916) was a Rotgeheiman Oberleutnant (First Lieutenant) in the Verteidigungsstaffel. He is most famous for his actions during the Invasion of Scheinfeld, when he organized an effective counter-attack while mortally wounded, effectively saving the lives of over a hundred wounded that were in danger of being overrun.

August Hartmann is related to fellow Rotgeheiman officer Maximilian Hartmann, commander of the 60th Panzer Regiment, 42nd VS-Panzergrenadier Division Friedberg.

Hartmann was married to Gerda Adelmann, with whom he had one child, Gerhard.
